Thanks Cees. Might give the ouzo a miss, worst hangover I ever had was after a night out at a Greek restaurant. Guinness, retsina and ouzo wasn't a good mix!

Thanks guys. Hubert, that's why I love this site as people are very open with their techniques and trials and errors, so you can try stuff and pick and mix other's ideas. I find many of the books and online videos about painting and weathering are very prescriptive and 'push' certain ideas and looks like the tartan appearance you mention. Rob, hopefully sometime around June or July we might the 2 days of summer a year we get here and I can get some outdoor photos for you! It was actually a beautiful, sunny but frosty day here yesterday but the sun is so low in the sky during the 6 hours or so of daylight that we get that our garden is barely ever out of shadow. -
Thanks Rob. It was certainly fun trying to push it far enough without going over the top.

Evening all, some pics of the recently finished Greek SLUF. And a couple without the flash to try and better demonstrate some of the 'dirtiness' which gets a bit lost with the flash. In addition to the basic kit I used Aires cockpit, Zacto seamless intake, AMS wheels, Videoaviation Mk82s and Brassin MERs. Markings were painted on using Montex masks and Eduard cockpit masks. Paintwork was predominantly Ammo acrylics (mainly the Argentinian Falklands set for the main colours) and Tamiya and Gunze for detail painting. Weathering was again mainly Ammo - oilbrushers, panel line washes, filters, etc. Gloss coat and matt coat were both Tamiya as I tried the AK matt varnish and failed miserably, It just beaded up all over the gloss coat so I cut my losses and went back to something I know always works although it isn't quite as 'flat' as I was wanting. Overall, I'm fairly happy with the result. There are a few things that will niggle as they didn't quite turn out how I'd envisaged but I've tried quite a few new techniques and pushed my skill set forward. It looks close enough to a SLUF for me despite the well known flaws in the kit. It does go together pretty well though with minimal seam work required. As always comments, critiques, suggestions welcomed. Cheers, Gus

Okay, I'm calling this done. Apologies for the lack of updates but bench time has been sporadic and my photographic skills depress me so I just pressed on with the weathering, etc. I'll post more photos over in the finished builds section. Cheers, Gus

Definitely a generational thing with Blender. My son taught himself it and has done some pretty amazing with it including most of his Higher Art & Design project. He's now at Uni doing Computer Games Technology so it's just the way their minds work nowadays! Pencils are prehistoric for them!! -
Nice finish. I remember those as my uncle was an AC2 at Leuchars in the 70s. They made one hell of a racket!

Ah, mine was the Tamiya Baja Bug which now seems to be called the Sand Scorcher. Great fun but I remember having fits trying to get the pressure correct in the oil damped suspension. Too much and the wheels pinged off at every little undulation but too little and it bottomed out on any little jump. -
Scottish version is grated cheese on fries (or chips as we call them). Mind you, we are also the nation that gave the world the deep fried Mars Bar. No wonder we have an issue with cardiac disease!

Stunning work with all the PE Gerald. Those Voyager sets frighten me to death - I just don't have the patience to do all the bending, etc -

Looks great Jeroen and the little movie of the laser cutting is very cool. Nice toys if you have access to them. -
Ah I spent many happy hours listening to both of them and watching Clive James on TV which featured some pretty hair-raising Japanese game shows. Two very clever, erudite people who never lost their sense of the absurd and that was what made them so funny but relate-able.

I'll go the VC10 tankers. All the engines at the back just made the fuselage and wing lines so sleek. Pity it was so useless at it's 'day job' -

Never encountered a problem with Mr Surfacer lifting so far. Was it from the resin or the kit plastic? -

I thought it was only over here that the idiots were taking over! We're also bringing in legislation, intended for drones, which will require all R/C modellers to register and sit a test. Anecdotally, people are leaving the hobby in droves. And eejits will still fly drones illegally near airports!
