Thank you Rob and you are right: it’s no Greek Mirage…

But I will add in the end some oil-stains, dirt and soot with oils and Tamiya Weatherine Sets to the lower side.

The area of the guns and the surrounding panel has to be painted gun-metal. It was left unpainted on the real aircraft:

This I will do with AK Metal colors later on. Unfortunately the effect the rings have now will disappear…

I‘m very slowly I know.

The bottom side will receive it’s yellow triangles with black edges next and then the bottom side is finished:

and I can move over to the top side.

So still a way to go!

 Just teasing you Kai, because I lover what you're doing. I certainly am not in a position to pressure anyone about its building speed: at my current pace with my PZL P-11, the Sun will have turned into a red dwarf before I apply the final layer of paint (and then the ambient light will play havoc with my sense of colors anyway  ).

Some days I don’t have desire for model making and then it makes no sense to go modeling because the result would never please me. 
Since I have a family, friends and other hobbies I do not manage to build more than 1-2 models per year.

So I can fully understand your comment.

Please go on teasing me! I need that sort of motivation

The underside is looking awesome and the weathering effects are right on the money. Seeing how much fitting, tweaking and re-working has been involved and correcting Italeri's gem, your progress has to be commended. If it was me, the kit would never have been built, in fact, I decided to sell my Mirage and upgrade resin as I know now I will never attempt it; so far no interest from any of the members.

Looking forward to your up coming pics of the finished undersides.

Hello Kai, it is what you said about blending the colors, they look much better and even now, the shading is very subtle visible. I like it, it's always hard to come to the point not to overdo it, but you have got it right. (I have a few models where I post shaded the panel lines, and if you go at it with the same technique by building up thin layers you get pretty much the same effect. when the color is on the model I mix a somewhat darker tone of that same color and then I spray the panel lines again thin layer after thin layer until you reach the effect you want)For example a ME109 G6, (that I still need to finish).

I fell in to the trap of putting to much color on the model, so my pre shading was gone under a layer of paint, so i tried to make the best of things and started post shading the panel lines, and I wasn't unhappy with the result

curious about you painting the top side, ( I also visited your Lancaster build in the finished model section, very nice work, and I love the colors you used, looked spot on to me) Couldn't help noticing when you where painting the crew members that you have a pretty Nice collection of action figures in a large scale in your display case, looks great, you certainly painted the crew members very realistic!

I‘ve made the same experience like you. I sometimes completely deleted the effects of the preshading by overdoing the airbrushing. 
This is why I decided to do it like I did on the Lancaster. With mixture of techniques and working with heavily thinned paint I can achieve the effects I want and can avoid using panelliners in the end. There isn’t a single drop of panelliner on the Lancaster but the panellines and rivets are subtle visible.

The only risk is that you create a lake on the model while airbrushing. But this can be avoided by spraying at low pressure and the right settings on the airbrush. And this is why I love my H&S Infinity CR.

Your method of postshading the panellines look quite convincing. Very subtle but you really need to have a quiet hand. Nice looking 109 btw. Did you show the WIP here?

Thanks also for the feedback regarding my Lancaster and the crew. 
Since I want to present my models in a little scene I had to learn some of the techniques for figure painting. This is also where I came across the topic of blending in. 
 

And last but not least: 

You don’t keep me away from painting. This forum here is not only to present one’s work but the main point is sharing experiences and learning new tricks and techniques.

Masking of the outlines of the black/ yellow triangles on the lower sides took longer than expected. Had to work a lot with the rule of three since no exact measurements were available. Just photos and drawings:

The resulting masking looks like this:

And finally - as a control- the dimensions of the inner yellow triangle:

As soon as the yellow color arrives (AK Real Color RC 007) I will start with the painting.

That's indeed a lot of masking. First, I was asking myself, why you glued the weapon pylons in place, but then I realized, that they get painted in the tringle colors too on the pic of the real thing.

Now there is some color in the game. As the others have mentioned, great job, layering the yellow on slightly transparent, but nonetheless bright. Interesting way of masking, I would have use a double layer of paper towels on the more distanced to masked parts, bordered by Kabuki, but maybe that's just me, with my difficulties to get supplies fast and reliable to my house.

This is special masking tape for fine work out of the DIY store. Not that expensive but I can fully understand your argument. Good method!

Thanks Gary! The IDF uses colors out of the FS-range. This is a yellow color with a slight orange tint. On the pictures it looks much more orange than in better (no IPhone and not artificial) light.

Last evening I finished the yellow triangles with black edges on the lower side of the wings.

First I drew the inner line for the black stripe with a fine pencil and a flexible ruler:

Then I masked the yellow triangle with 1 mm stripes of Tamiya-tape and then filled it up with tape and in some places with Maskol. I also added a mask where the Israeli cocarde will be placed because the black stripe would possibly show through the white decal:

This was then sprayed with Tamiya flat black as were the small main gear doors:

Finally I removed the masks and the result looks like this:

Some black has blown through the masking here. Can easily be corrected.

There are only very few touchups to be done. All in all I am pleased with the result since the masking was complicated due to the complex geometry in some places especially around the pylons.

After having done the touchups I can move to the upper fuselage to start the camo-scheme.
