Thanks for your feedback Craig and Mark! Much appreciated!

Today I finished the Shafrir2 rockets (11 decals each) and the 2 instruments for the windshield frame: the onboard clock and the spare compass.

Also added a housing and cable for the clock.

Tonight I will start with the flat varnish.

I will use Xtracolor flat varnish to achieve a dull surface. On all photos available to me from Israeli Air Force Mirage III with camouflage the color is dull:

I wouldn't use a too matte coat Kai, seeing your last picture, there clearly is a reflection of the yellow ladder to be seen.

Thanks for your feedback guys!

I corrected a mistake I made: both rockets had the same number! But each rocket has its own. Therefore I changed one no. to 2076:

I stared today with the application of the flat varnish. Small parts, underside, left side and left wing of the aircraft already finished. I will do the right side and Right wing tonight and then post some pics.

Yesterday I enhanced some of the panellines (mainly on the forward fuselage) which weren’t like the ones visible from the preshading with different kinds of light-grey oilcolor. This creates a more regular appearance of all panellines:

Today I finished what I promised: flat varnish applied:

I‘m happy since no silvering of the decals occurred.

Also a typical effect of the AK-Colors occurred: The real color-tone comes out when flat varnish is applied over them.

I did the panellines over the David-stars and some other small panellines with a Faber Castell pencil with a 0,3 mm HB-Pencil lead.

I‘ll let the whole thing dry for 48 hours now and then start weathering of the underside and unmasking of the canopy, cockpit and windshield.

The end is now really in sight Hubert!:D

Soo … it’s not done yet :( ?

Hubert, in the Bordeaux area, substituting popcorn by foie gras, duck confit and red wine …

Looking mighty sweet! Panels lines and matte clear coat look spot and and no silvering - awesome for sure.

On my F4, I've finished the aircraft decals, almost all the panel lines are done as well and am about as close to your build stage as well.

Keep 'em comin

Rob,

I‘ve taken a closer look at the foto you mentioned and found another one which indicated to me that maybe it‘s not the part of the ladder which mirrors on the fuselage but seems to be a discoloration. There’s something similar slightly above the first. In addition there is no mirror to be seen on the fuselage of the left part of the ladder.
Therefore and due to a lot of fotos I looked at in the web I decided to finish it with a matte cote:

That’s a nice substitute Hubert! Hope you enjoy your holiday in France!

And I also hope to cross the finish-line before you are back to popcorn.:D How long will you stay in France?

I‘m closely following your F-4 build.
Looking forward to seeing it with the final varnish applied!

I'm not sure Kai, The photo is taken under harsh low light, as the shadows indicate and what I called reflection, represents the form of the ladder perfectly. On the other hand, there should be a reflection on the left spar of the ladder too, which isn't. Maybe the pilots entering had greasy knees and that's what causes a spotty shine ;).

I see what you mean but for my taste, I always some hint of gloss in my final clear finish, just seems to add to the effect of metal under the paint.

I‘m really curious to see the phinal phinish on your Phantom!

Lovely finish Kai. I think the matte coat looks just right. I know everyone has different tastes and opinions but personally I prefer a flatter finish on jets like this unless there's clear evidence to the contrary.

Thank you for your feedback Gus! We have a similar opinion.
During my time in the GAF I had the opportunity to fly in an Alpha-Jet.
Take a look at the camouflage: Completely flat finish.

But you are right:

BTW: what about your Cheetah?

outstanding work you have done alraedy.

Almost there, and yes about the finnish its a lot to discus about it flat or not.

Mostly with planes a go voor satin but it all depends on the builder

iff you are happy thats the most important.

Thank you Mark.

Completely agree with you.

I will stop the discussion about the final finish now as it really belongs to the gusto of the builder and I don’t want to nerve all the others here with the discussion of all the pros and cons.

Back to the bench and doing the final steps now is more important.

Great picture Kai.

Progress has been slow on the Cheetah due to holidays and my father being taken into hospital. I'll post once I have anything worth showing

Some detail work done tonight:

Unmasked the canopy (without surprise under the tape) and added the mirrors, the canopy closing handle and the canopy breaking knife:

On the real thing…

And on the model.

I also started to repaint the black cockpit rail and have to repair some small mistakes which came up when I unmasked the cockpit:

not a big deal but I have to repaint the green.

The bang seat is just test

Tomorrow I will do the repainting and then come back to final parts to be glued to the model. Coming closer to the finish line now.
