I just don't feel much satisfaction doing cockpits. I rarely buy AM for them, and I'm usually disappointed by my results. There are others who seem to make them look beautiful and interesting. I'm hoping on this build that greater application will lead to greater satisfaction. And the 2 applications of oil look a little rough. But I know that 109 cockpit well... it will be dark in there, even with the canopy open... and the seat belts will cover a lot of space. Just painting like in the times when no brass or 3D was available. Beautiful work Gary. Look at this Revi gunsight... so hard for my fumble fingers The seatbelts were fiddly... but since I paid for them already, I didn't order cloth belts. Love those little painted PE panels... they just make everything look better. The side panels were easiest of all... The elevator trim wheels are the only Revell parts in this pit. I decided that trying to impart a natural curve into the PE wheels would be too mcuh effort and give too little reward... so I used the plastic. I took some liberties with metallic paints. Finally a little more paint for the IP Happy modelling! There are two tiny little resin pieces to go. GazzaS Posted June 29, 2021 Author Share Posted June 29, 2021 I'm coming down with a cold. Pretty sure I got it from the grand kid. No matter. It slows me down some, but I'll still keep plodding. It's update time. One of the things that kills me about this kit is the surface detail on the control surfaces: Last time I tried to overcome bad detail on the control surfaces, I used decals to portray rib tapes. This time I went for an even finer option. After sanding away the offending surfaces, I painted very thin lines to portray the faint details you can see on close up photos of 109's. Once concern I see voiced often is whether the resin cockpit fits or not. Dry fitting showed a perfect fit. I also started preparing other AM. These Brassin brass landing gear replace the kit gear which are prone to breaking. The come with resin landing gear covers. Now... there is another option from a newish company called Scale Ordnance works. They make landing gear with guitar wire molded into ABS plastic with a shiny real metal oleo... I used a set for my FW190A1. I cleaned up the Eduard Brassin weighted wheels and exhaust a little. Then I dry-fitted some parts to check the 109's stance. I've probably spent four times what the kit is worth just on aftermarket. Which is a shame. Some people say we don't need another 1/32 scale 109. But the fact is... all of the 1/32 scale 109's out there excluding the Dragon 109E's... are pretty screwed up. Happy modelling! 5 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Good to see, that the pit is fitting well, but bummer with these weird looking control surfaces. I have some metal cast Brassin struts for my FW-190 and my Mig-21 and they are rigid and very detailed, but these from Ordnance work look the part too and you have the olio finished the right way. I have only an Eduard 109E in 1/32 with lots of Brassin extras and a Royal box of the 1/48 109G, which is sufficient for me, as I 'm not an overly great fan of the plane. Making improvements make me feel better than just slapping a kit together. But I do resent having to buy shitloads of GM. I built the Eduard 109 a few years ago, and was appalled by the shape of the thing. Immediately after taking my RFI pics, I threw it in the bin. I recently bought the HGW kit. It has the Dragon plastic and is quite drool worthy. The 109 is my favorite machine full stop. But most of the available kits are trash. Revell and Trumpeter... more trouble than they are worth. As I bought some figures for it lately, there is some urge to continue the 109E soon. What I have seen from the kit so far is looking 109ish to me, but I'm far from being an expert. Favorite plane, that's a good one, made me thinking. I don't think I have ONE favorite plane and the usual suspects, I see are there for different reasons. Some planes I like, because of their technical advancement, some for esthetics and some for whatever reason, I can't put a finger on. That absolutely means not, that I'm after building only favorites as models. Some planes, I build, because I want to achieve a certain goal, like a special scheme or to learn new techniques. The actual Ford GT is one of those, not attracting me as a real thing, but a perfect canvas for trying new stuff. It's a project I really like, despite that, but if I fail, it's easier to bin it. Ok, Butter bei die Fische, which means in northern German slang, Butter to the Fishes and translates to 'To put something substancial into it' WWI: Fokker DR. VIII and Maybe DR.VII WWII: Arado 234, P-38 Lightning, P-47D Thunderbolt, PBY Catalina Cold War: F4-Phantom, EE Lightning, Lockheed SR-71, Boeing 707 Modern: MIG-31, all the planes I fly in, because I hope they are proper designed and safe.
