ANIMALS IN OUR LIVES :)

Here’s a story.
two years ago I found a stray pit bull wondering in our neighbourhood , brought her home. She was in very alarming shape apparently neglected by her owner. I cleaned up the ear mites, washed her, cut her claws, gave her some deworming pills and after few days I took her to the City of Calgary animal shelter.
Owner picked her up right after. Few months later I found out that she’s back at the shelter again, so I approached one of the bylaw guys to make a note of it. “ Some dogs are runners, you know”, was his answer. Well, she went with my pack to the forest and didn’t run anywhere, was my reaction.
This week I decided to foster dogs for the local ARCS. The Covid crisis is over and people who adopted pups to fight the boredom are bringing them back as a huge wake up call to our society values. Anyway,  after filling all of the necessary paperwork I received a list of dogs in need of foster homes.  And there she was, gargoyle with a broken tail.
She’s with us for now and hopefully , we will be able to find her a new home forever.

Martin, that's a big fear isn't it? That all these first time dog owners have to go back to work and they have no idea what to do with their dogs. So they take the easy way out and hand them off to someone else.  Sigh.

Glad to see you can give her a happy home, if only temporary.

Carl

She is a little rocket, super energetic, agile and fast. Typical pit full of love and happiness, very different in comparison with my two savages. Also she had recently babies, I wonder what was that story about.

Maybe six feet under if I find a decent spot in the backyard

For all the mayhem they cause, I think we love our pets too much.

I remember jumping in a friend's minivan years ago and struggling to find the seatbelt - they were hidden behind cut-down lengths of plastic guttering as it was the only way to stop his Boxer eating it's way through them!

Here is Kaiser at 6 months.

He's had his dew claws removed and is a few days from getting the stitches out.

Almost once a day, my dogs get a real bone with meat on it to chew.  Here he is enjoying some beef marrow bone.  Sadly, he is only partially potty trained.    As the livingroom is his enclosure when unattended, we have him trained not to go in there unless we lay puppy pads down.  Still, he thinks the rest of the house is fair game.  I've never had this much trouble with potty training a dog.  Today, he found my wife's brand new, still in the box, Go Pro.  I don't know if he's destroyed it...  i only picked up pieces that may have been attachment stuff.

As you can see in the top picture, he's almost as tall as Gypsy.   I hope his head broadens to at least the width of hers.  Hers was very large for a female.  As you can see above...   no two-gallon bucket is safe.

Gary, some dogs just take to it a bit easier than others. My older dog Zoe had all of two accidents as a puppy when I was training her but Jimmy had quite a few more than that. It ended up taking close to two months to get him trained but he's been god since. My sister's dog still has accidents from time to time and she's 6. Drives my sister nuts.

Forgot, the pic of Kaiser with the destroyed bucket reminded me of my parents' Shepherd Pippin. She had a knack for getting flip lid garbage cans stuck on her head.

That is a convicted bin diver for sure.
