Italeri 1/35 Vosper MTB

Recommended Posts

  • 2 weeks later...

It's been a while but I finally got some more work done on the Vosper.

It's a bit random as I'm sort of jumping around. On the cabin walls, I started removing some of the moulded on details.

Then I added the PE replacement bits.

There's a bunch more to add to this, that's just the foundation.

On the rear cabin wall, it's more of the same.

There's a bunch of interior detail to add too.

There are several conduit boxes and you have to add rings to the openings for the cables.

Then I jumped to the torpedo cradles. Here's the bits that make them up.

Partway through putting them together.

I have the say, the engineering really impresses me on these subassemblies. If you've folded them together correctly, they hold together with just a slight bit of pressure which allows for easier CA application.

One assembled cradle.

Glad to see you back working on the Vosper. The PE details look fantastic and some mighty fine work on the PE torpedo cradles; you absolutely have the touch.

Thanks Peter. The PE really is going together much better than I thought it would.

Nice PE work, Carl, we are sitting in the same boat, literally :D.

Cheers Rob

Rob, you've got the bigger challenge with the Arizona as the base kit is a lot cruder than what I'm dealing with.

I finally found some challenging bits to make on this kit. The deck hatches are a multi layer assembly. There's an outer edge and an inner one to each one.

They then all require hinges to be made. Each one is three parts. You have to roll the hinge around a piece of copper wire and then if you've done it right, it'll work.

One done, 7 to go. Still can't believe I got it done, it's so tiny.

Last bit for now is an overhead thingy and the conduit.

Carl,  I'm sorry, this whole thing just blows my mind.  The level of detail and the minute-ness is something my head just cannot comprehend.  Wow. HATCHES THAT WORK???  Those boxes with the cable rings???

Next you are going to say the bloody thing floats and the guns fire!  :unworthy:

Kevin, I used to solder stuff all the time in my late teens and early twenties when I was big into RC cars. Got really good at it but then stopped. Since then, every time I try now it's a blobby mess if stuff even sticks together.

I have a couple small irons I could try and see if anything works.

Do you get brass blindness like me sometimes Carl? When I work for hours on PE with the magnifier under good lighting, I got caught by the permanent glare and have difficulties to focus :icon_eek:. Time for a beer then and some music on the turntable.

Cheers Rob

Rob, I do sometimes get some eye strain from working too long. Mostly I find it happening when I'm painting lots of white the glare gets bad.

Amazing PE work and now operating draws. Too bad they are so small, as they would be a good place for the secret stash.

Can't wait to see all of these assemblies painted - going to look tremendous.

Thanks Peter. I'm still amazed that it goes together so well.

And yes, they'd need to be bigger to hide my stash in.
