Peter, I picked up some PE guides a few years ago. They're to mark the centre of a tube precisely for drilling them out.  Let me see if I can find them. I haven't used them so can't say how easy they would be to use.

Carl, like Peter, I too would be interested in having a look at these too. My usual way is like Rob’s , I out a nee blade in my knife and under a good light try to locate the center with the old Mark 1 eyeball. ‘Most’ of the time I’m successful enough to be passable.  But if there is a fool proof way out there , it bears some investigation. Thanks buddy

Jeff, Peter I'll try to find them and let you know who made them. If I recall, they're a Japanese company but a quick search around my bench and I can't find them. I did find B-25 parts, Tse Tse Mossie parts and Kingfisher parts though.

Meantime, the Me 262 is getting closer to finished. I started on the decals and that went sideways. The stencils started to curl up and the silvering was absolutely nasty. So I ended up removing most of the them. I had to do some paint touch-ups as a result. I'm probably going to just leave it at this point. I may look at the 1 Man Army stencils if I decide to revisit this.

I also added the landing gear doors and the drop tanks.

Lastly,  I removed the masking and fitted the canopies.

Well, test fitted them anyways. They're going to be in the open position.

Your 262 looks fantastic Carl. Bummer with the decals, were these the original Revell ones. I wonder, because I thought they were of relatively good quality. 1ManArmy masks on German planes are a lot of work, because of the many used colors and walkways, which I experienced with my Arado 234.
When I build my 262, I will give the HGW wet transfers a (last?) shot.

Cheers Rob

Rob, they were the kit decals which are by Cartograf. Not sure if I got a bad sheet but I'm going to use some artistic license and leave it as is. I was also getting a reaction with the decal softener in that the paint was melting. That was a first for me. So rather than risking things I'm calling the decals done.

Thanks Carl, I got another question considering the gun barrels, I never saw them protruding on a 262 like with yours, secret weapon? sniper version? :D

Rob, this particular aircraft had the lower Mk108 cannon replaced with a pair of Mk103s. The Mk103 has a much longer barrel so they stuck out. I can't find any reason why they did it but I thought it looked different enough to do.

Small bit of progress. Almost tossed the model but finally got the canopies in place.

Then the fun part, adding the antennae.

Somehow this went easier than the canopies. Go figure.

Corsair is landing a helping hand, or wing :)

Actually both outer wings are off, one with a broken spar which I'll need to fix which is why she's stalled.

Nice progress for sure. I would have also guessed the antenna would have been harder to install then the canopy ... go figure. In either case, they look superb. :construction:

Peter, I know. Who would have thought. The antennae were a single drop of Tamiya Extra Thin on the arm, then stuck the antenna on and a quick alignment and done. The canopies couldn't decide if they wanted to attach to the coaming or the edge of the fuselage plus then I had to hold them while the CA set and they kept moving around.

Either way they're all on and I've only got a few small bits left.

  • 2 weeks later...

Time to finally call this one done. I added the last few parts to the 262 which was mostly the antenna and that was it.

The bench is still a work in progress so I'll try to take some better pics soon. Maybe on the weekend.

A true beauty, Carl. The mottling came out great and the markings blend in beautifully. The long barrels and the lack of two tone camo on the wing make her look positively different. Makes me want to start mine, but this is for later.

Cheers Rob
