belugawhaleman
Well, just got home and this was in my mail; from DEF.MODEL it's their JGSDF LAV Basic PE detail up set. This is for the Tamiya Japan Ground Self Defense Force LAV kit I got last week. It includes photo-etch ,resin parts, masks, and what looks like a metal disc(mirror?). I got it because of the head light protectors that aren't included In the kit.....these look really small in 1/35 photo-etch! 3
ScottsGT
Yea, got it from another Gundam store out of Atl. Ga. Just a one day shipping distance. I’ll do you one better. I ordered spark plugs for my ‘66 Mustang on Saturday evening from Summit Racing. They were on my front porch Monday morning. Also from Atl.

Yea, instructions are very limited and lost in translation. YouTube to the rescue. But man, this thing is going to make life so much easier painting wheels and tires now. I’ve been sitting here cutting circles like a moron on a tricycle. I’ll get the locator soon as well. That was fast. The quality of the cutter is really impressive, like most of their tools.

Not a real fan Carl, I like the graphics, his style of painting, the stories, hmm, not so much, but I do own some of his books. Instructions leave a lot to be desired. BTW, the Locator jig has pricing all over the place on line. Most places are asking upwards of $50 and more for them. You can get it from China for $9-$11. But the same Gundam store I bought the cutter from has them for $12. Went ahead and ordered it just now too. 4

ScottsGT
There’s also USAGundam or GundamUSA in FL. One thing I’ve seen with Gundam stores is they carry Mr. Color paint. Might be a good source if your regular place is out of stock. I also found SMS lacquers out of Australia at the FL store.
BlrwestSiR
The LHS had their annual Boxing day sale so I went to get some supplies. While there, I noticed that all Tamiya kits were 20% off so I broke down and got a couple. Not my favourite jet by a long shot, but at $87CAD I decided to make like the RCAF and get one. Now to wait for suitable markings. Our youngest came along and he picked up the old Airfix 1/24 Spitfire for $35CAD. Hopefully it isn't too bad a build. I'll definitely have to give him a hand with it. One other thing, I was looking at the F-35 instructions and noticed the nose gear leg goes in early on in the build. But it goes in folded!!?!! Later on though, you clip off a piece and unfold it to the extended position. Talk about clever engineering... 7

Glossed the P-40 today and for the first time I used Tamiya's Clear Gloss Lacquer LP-9 instead of Mr Color Clear Gloss #46 and I was very impressed with the results. Right now I would call it a draw between the two clear gloss lacquers What's your thoughts comparing the two clears? I see you bought a bottle of Tamiya Pearl Clear - is this a semi gloss finish - never heard of it before? 1
BlrwestSiR
Peter, the pearl clear has fine flake in it so would be more for a car model. It's a gloss finish. I'm curious if it would work on the Have Glass paint which has a similar pearl effect. The GX100 is supposed to be a very high gloss clear. I have yet to try it out but will see how it works soon enough.
ScottsGT
MRP has a Have glass clear “varnish” with the pearl tone. I stocked up when Sprue got it back in stock for my F-35A & C.

Nice haul Carl, have you used the Mr. Color GX 100 clear coat before? I tried it four times and it worked only once satisfactory. The other times it frosted like cotton candy and gooed in the airbrush. I thinned it with Mr. Leveling thinner on all occasions. I went to the Tamiya LP clear last time out of sheer desperation. Bomber_County
A couple of items which were found under the tree. The ICM Beaufort May become a Group Build contender. At last found a supplier of Tamiya polish, for some unknown reason it disappeared over here. Also my first modelling jig, been coveting one of these for ages. Plus more weathering materials for AFV’s…
