GusMac
OK, managed to fix the shattered decals to my satisfaction (don't look too close!) so here's where we're at The Extreme Metals work like a dream and dry so fast. I've used aluminium with panels picked out in dark aluminium, matt aluminium and duralumin. I wouldn't bother with the matt aluminium again as the contrast with the main colour is almost negligible. Plan is for a Flory wash next and see how that looks, then decide how to proceed. 8

GusMac
Thanks fellas. Luckily the Tamiya lacquer black seems to exactly match the shade of black in the decals, well close enough for my short-sighted eyesight anyway!

I wasnât happy with the NFM on my ZM 51 and itâs languishing on the SOD, looking at your Jug, itâs enticed me to revisit it. I also used Xtreme and loved them not sure what happenedâĤâĤ..
GusMac
I'm sure you've mentioned it Phil, but what black base did you use? I went with Rob's suggestion and used the Tamiya lacquer black as the test I did with the Xtreme black base was irregular and, as others have said, didn't seem to dry fully.

BlrwestSiR
It sounds like folks are having mixed issues with the Xtreme black base. I used it on the CF-104 and it dried but I found it on the soft side. On my next NMF, I'll probably use Tamiya as it sprays so nicely.
GazzaS
Rivet testing. Hoped to use the beading tool, but the straight lines I wanted failed to materialize.  So, had to go with the 'hole-making' rivet wheel.

If I remember I left it a dayâĤâĤ.. I've never had any issues with Tamiya Gloss Black Lacquer or Mr Color Gloss Black Lacquer. Both dry quite quickly and smooth as silk. I've also tried a number of the Gloss Blacks from the NMF ranges and wasn't happy with them. In the past, before Tamiya came out with their lacquer range, I use to use Tamiya Gloss Black with good results - but just dries as bit oo thick.
CANicoll
Gus and Kevin - great looking work! Love the smaller builds, esp the WWI birds. NMF is a challenge as the base has to be perfect, but yours looks great. I keep going back to Vallejo's gloss black primer, which I also use as a gloss black when needed. Sometimes it LOOKs bad after I spray it, but it then settles down into a nice glossy black that seems pretty tough. It also dries incredibly quickly - I've sprayed over it in a matter of a few hours, and done light masking in the same timeframe.
CANicoll
Gary, You are amazing with the rivet detail. I just can't even fathom trying my hand at that - the straight-line problem not withstanding. I'm still debating on getting the HGW rivet set for the 1/48 P-38J. It is the holiday season after all!!  Chris
