Is there a reason, why you haven't masked the canopy before assembly? It would have made working with them a little less stressing. Cheers Rob Thanks Rob! I was worried that if I masked the canopy first, the masking might wick up the Tamiya Extra Thin cement I was using. Which would have definitely ruined my day. With the glue dry, I'll be masking the off next before I do any sanding work needed.

Time to get crackin’ on and power through to the end. Thanks Ernie! Finding the "missing parts" was really the incentive I needed to get back to working on this. Plus I promised Harv I'd get out my F-4G conversion once this was done.
BlrwestSiR
Ok, time for some paint to fly. I started by painting the canopy section in black. After masking off the clear sections first. Then I painted the fuselage with Gunship Grey. This sort of reminded me of F6 Lightnings in their final camo scheme. Now the fun began. I used the Tiger Meet masksade by DN Models. They give you a nice reference sheet so you know where everything goes. Once I had the Tiger stripes on both sides, I masked off the remaining areas with tape. Due to all the various bumps and lumps on the fuselage, I'm expecting to have some overstay and touch up being required.
BlrwestSiR
Ok, I couldn't wait and sprayed the light grey. And of course had to peel the masks off and see what it looked like All the Tiger stripe masks on a sheet of waxed paper in case I need them. There's not as much touch up needed as I thought there would be. Which is good news. I still have to do the wings and the tailplanes but this is quite a bit of progress.

BlrwestSiR
I stayed up a bit longer last night and got the stub wings painted. These actually needed a bunch of touch up due to the pylons but I got it all done and installed them onto the fuselage. We're off for a hike so hopefully there'll be more progress later today.

Jeff
Carl, your work is so CLEAN and precise.....that paint turned out unbelievably good, I am MORE than impressed......... nice job...... can you use those masks a second time or are they a one shot deal? Also what did you use to 'glue' the canopy on with? 3

Cheers Rob Thanks Rob! I've always liked Tiger Meet aircraft so when DN Models came out with this masking set, I no longer had an excuse to not get this model. The DN masks have worked really well so far. They have several Tiger Meet mask sets and have even done a couple custom ones for me. 9 hours ago, Jeff said: Carl, your work is so CLEAN and precise.....that paint turned out unbelievably good, I am MORE than impressed......... nice job...... can you use those masks a second time or are they a one shot deal? To fill the small gaps I had, I used some 'sprue glue' which is bits of kit sprue dissolved in Tamiya Extra Thin. It's thick and gloopy but more importantly, sands nicely once fully cured and can strengthen the joint a bit. Just don't get it on clear bits where you don't want it.

BlrwestSiR
Been out a bunch with the boys so haven't gotten much done on the Hind. I did start on the decals though. Thankfully there's not a lot of them. I sort of forgot about the rotors so those are up next.

BlrwestSiR
It's getting closer to completion. Which means I'm getting closer to having no place to put it once it's done. I bent the Master pitot so will have to get a new one. Also one of the cabin windows popped out and is now rattling around inside the cabin. No way to fish it out much less glue it back in place so I may have to get creative.

crazypoet
This ship is iconic - and I love the version you’re building. I recall first learning about these back in the ‘80’s - there was more than a bit of institutional doubt at the time about the ability of the Cobras and front-line AA to deal effectively with them, should the balloon go up before the Apaches were field-ready this takes me back!
GazzaS
Looks awesome, Carl! What are the blades made of? I'm surprised by the rigidity. Gaz
