Zoukei-Mura P51D Mustang SWS No 4.

Recommended Posts

Hopefully I do not hear the cry “not another” Mustang.........

So I hopefully present the Zoukei-Mura P51D Mustang SWS No 4.

This has been my only bargain on eBay, all of this for £83.00 ($110), that’s probably half price .......

  1. Weighted wheels
  2. Propeller attachment derrick and crew
  3. Oil change crew
  4. PE gunbay
  5. PE interior
  6. Brass 0.5 armament and pitot’s

The irony of it the prop attachment sent wasn’t listed so big surprise there. So a healthy tranche of AM and PE but horrors of horrors four figures to paint........

Also have the Mustang IV in the stash so thinking have one fully open and cowls off etc and the other buttoned up.....hopefully you’ll join me for this odyssey.....

Looking forward to see your build of this one. It is actually a nice kit, that got shadowed at its launch by the simultaneously-released Tamiya kit.

It deserves more attention and praise than it got (and I have one in the stash, that has the bonus of different canopies and props, so easier to make a racer out of it).

Certainly won't be coming from me. I've yet to build a Mustang in 1/32.

I do have a couple though.

Carl, I think now is the time to release them from the stash.......mini GB?

which ones have you got?

Exactly what I thought, I have only one in my stash though, the Mustang IV.

Cheers Rob

Rob, again I think a GB is the order of the day......is the IV the ZM?

You’re right Hubert, there are very few builds of this (which I can find) .......I am blown away by the 3 canopies in the box and two props, I think in the IV boxing there are three......I have made a start so I’ll post some WIP......

Sorry Phil, my ZM Mustang IV will be a shelf queen for a while, I have too many other projects in line.

Cheers Rob

Phil, I've got the Tamiya D/K kit and the Revell D.

And I was wrong, I've actually built one P-51 in 1/32. I did the Dragon kit a few years ago as a Whiffer.

As for a mini GB, unfortunately I'm in the same spot as Rob with too many kits on the go for another.

I'm in for this one - I picked up the kit and extras earlier this year and will be watching with a lot of interest.  No pressure :)

Mike, which extras did you get? I’ll be posting some pics this week as I started a couple of weeks ago.......more the merrier....

Hey Phil, like you, I got almost a complete package on eBay for a relative steal (paid about kit retail for all the PE, wheels, gun barrels, etc.).  I did end up adding the fuel tank attachment set and the propeller attachment set.  I debated getting the oil tank exchange set like you have and/or the engine maintenance set in lieu of the fuel tank attachment set.  Might still add one or both, who knows.  At the moment I'm working on an F4F-4 Wildcat with an Aires conversion set that allows you to show off the engine compartment, and am now thinking that showing off the engine on the Z-M Mustang would be pretty sweet.  Lot of cool add-ons for this particular kit for sure.

I'm still fairly low on the learning curve, so I probably won't start mine for a couple of years in order to be able to do the kit justice.  Among [too many] other kits in the stash, I have the Eduard P-51D Royal Class box in 1/48 with a bunch of the Brassin upgrades which I probably will do first I think.

Nice haul of AM Mike, I did this when I first returned to the hobby....

Probably similar to your Mustang, the PE and resin in these are tiny but you learn a lot...........I bought the Mustang IV first and then saw the bargain of a lifetime. So going to have the US version open and maintained and the IV buttoned up. looking forward to seeing your builds.......

Hmm, the thought of picking up the Mustang IV and having one open and one buttoned up did cross my mind.... :)

Right now i have the P-51D, Skyraider (navy), Raiden, Shinden, and Do-335 single seater.  It's odd how some auctions you can get ridiculous deals with no bidding competition, and others, just the base kit and no AM go for crazy prices.  I've managed to scoop up a bunch of Z-M kits with almost complete Z-M AM for prices around (and often times below) kit retail.  Z-M aftermarket can add up quickly, so I look for packages that are mostly complete.  I wasn't planning on doing the Shinden, but it had all AM and the full paint set for something like $90 and free shipping :o  Figured it would be a good intro to the Z-M system.

That looks like a really cool Eduard set.  I have one of the Eduard P-39 Airacobra limited edition sets that I picked up for something like $30 - Eduard does a really nice job with them.  Otherwise, I've been picking up the Royal Class sets when I've found them for good prices.  Eduard can get pricey too if you decide to go with the Brassin upgrades.
