617 Sqn Tornado Dambuster 70th
Kaireckstadt replied to Kaireckstadt's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Thank you Peter. Fitting of the front fuselage to the rear part with fit problems and the electronics to include was a demanding task. I’m happy that this is behind me now. -

IMG_9079.MOV IMG_9079.MOV IMG_9079.MOV IMG_9079.MOV Thank you Kevin! After a small pause I was able to continue with the build. Made greater progress with closing the fuselage rear, gluing the fuselage front to the rear, assembling the intakes and the preparing the thrust-reverser flaps. Gluing the fuselage front to the rear was a little more demanding since I had to integrate the platine with all plugs attached. I was very happy that the test of the electronics after the assembly was successful. Maintenance board my Interpretation Sensor on top of the fin (scratched because I lost mine during assembly) marriage of upper and lower part fit of fuselage front and rear not too bad The „cable salad“ in the fuselage intakes assembled. Tailerons not glued. Starts looking like a Tornado… intake from the inside IMG_9079.MOV Video of working lights assembled thrust-reverser flaps. Guiding sheets not glued because they are invisible after assembly in closed position. pencil marking on the lower parts for the painting process where heat-markings of the guiding sheets of the inside are visible thrust-reverser mechanism prepainted flaps with AK extreme metal steel Still some rework to be done on the underside… test fitting of the thrust-reverser-flaps ok rework of the panel behind the cockpit. Gap was too big. Now I can go on with the rework of the model: filling, sanding and rescribing. Not one of my favorite tasks…😉 -

This will be another perfect diorama Gary! Great surgery on the figures and composition of all items on the diorama. The tarpaulin looks absolutely realistic. -

Your Mossie is really awesome Peter! I have one in my stash and yours is an inspiration for me. The same applies for your Spitfire. Great progress, interesting description of what you are doing and perfect professional fotos. That’s why I love following your builds here. -

Thank you all for your nice feedback. I investigated a little bit regarding the landing- and taxi-lights, Mark. They can be switched on separately by the crew. It depends on the rules of the wing where the aircraft is operated (at least valid for the Tornados of GAF Wings). In some wings the procedure is given to light both when taxiying to the runway (e.g. when it’s dark outside). Others have different procedures for ground operation. When in flight you are right: only landing-lights used. -

Today I managed to paint and assemble the engines. Only painting of the compressor wheel and inner parts of the turbines necessary. I used AK Extreme Metal, Alclad II and Tamiya Weatherine Sets to achieve the results. This is how the original looks like: And my interpretation: Exhaust tubes: Impossible to remove these ejector-pinmarks. Luckily not visible when assembled. Afterburner-rings: Exhaust-nozzles from the inside: Turbine-wheel and afterburner-ring assembled: Compressor wheel assembled: Exhaust tube assembled: Next step now will be the assembly of the fuselage mid-section. -
