Dave J Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 So here it is as of 2010 before it was rescued from "The Shelf of Dooooooommmm!" What it started as.... WIP here - http://forum.largescalemodeller.com/topic/810-rescued-from-the-shelf-of-dooooomm-tamiya-mkviii-spit/ And finished as Lt. Bill Skinner's Lonesome Polecat of the 308th Fighter Squadron, 31st Fighter Group, Castel Volturno, Italy, April 1944. Quickboost exhausts, Barracuda Resin Wheels and Mk.VIII decals were used for the National Markings and some stencils that were applied. Tamiya Decals used for the Nose art, kill markers and Squadron Codes. Weathered using AK Interactive and some of the Tamiya Weathering Master set. 3
nmayhew Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 Nice one Dave What number where the QB exhausts? Are they meant for the Tam kit? Maybe I have missed these before?? Cheers Nick
Members Mikester Posted July 25, 2013 Members Posted July 25, 2013 Outstanding, Dave! Did you detail the engine? I'm thinking about doing a Kiwi version for the Pacific GB but don't feel like getting bogged down with all that engine detail, especially after seeing guys like Wolf Buddee do his I can kind of feel like anything I would do in that department is "amateur hour". 1
Dave J Posted July 25, 2013 Author Posted July 25, 2013 Cheers Guys! Much appreciated! Outstanding, Dave! Did you detail the engine? I'm thinking about doing a Kiwi version for the Pacific GB but don't feel like getting bogged down with all that engine detail, especially after seeing guys like Wolf Buddee do his I can kind of feel like anything I would do in that department is "amateur hour". I detailed the engine for the Mk.XVI that I did for MIM... I spent 4-5 hours doing it... This time I just glued the cowls in place! 1
harvey boyer Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 I really want a MKVIII to do the American photo rec #944. Yours is top shelf, my friend !............Harv
Daywalker Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 A smashing success Dave, brilliantly executed! Flawless weathering, put that model on a display base with a photo backdrop and you couldn't tell the difference between it and the real deal.
BevanBrooks Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 Nice job on that. I think the stars'n'bars look great with that scheme............well done Cheers Bevan
Administrators JeroenPeters Posted July 27, 2013 Administrators Posted July 27, 2013 Looks great Dave. Very nice. Love the sadistic punctured tires! Jeroen

JonathanReed Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 I know I'm late on all of my post...just trying to catch up What method and paint of weathering material did you use for the exhaust stains on the fuse? Thank you! BEAUTIFUL WORK!
Jean Skinner Michalove Posted February 15, 2021 Posted February 15, 2021 Awesome job! My name is Jean Skinner Michalove, William Skinner was my father. We now have 3 generations of pilots in our family. He would have loved to see his plane made into a model. 5 1
joeg Posted March 3, 2021 Posted March 3, 2021 Great Job on a nice spit. I think there are some colour pics of the plae and its pilot in one of the Ethell/Sands books. Jean, it is great and encouraging to learn that scale models are watched and appreciated by relatives of former pilots. 1
