You should try Archie Shepp's 'Trouble in Mind' a good interpretation, with perfect sound. I heard it first during a private presentation of stereo equipment in a Berlin hifi shop. They had some speakers from Acapella Audio Arts connected, which featured an ion tweeter. I never before had the sensation of living inside a saxophone . Nonetheless, the vinyl sounds great on my set too. The Transrotor Fat Bob is only one of my three turntables and it does it's duty since fifteen years, without trouble. The only thing, it frequently needs is a polish of the aluminum, given the humidity here. That is always like a workout in a gym, with it's hefty weight. My second player is a self restore Dual from the early eighties. It was once the best deck Dual had in their lineup, but has it's troubles, with the speed control being electronical. Mine has actually a blown chip and I try to get a new one. My third deck is a simple project deck, which is connected to a Marshall Woburn for having vinyl music on the terrace. It's astoundingly well sounding, maybe because of the formidable Goldring MM cartridge, but has slight humming with the internal RIAA amplifier. DocRob Posted July 2, 2021 Share Posted July 2, 2021 British high end, you have to love it, pure understatement outside (well, except the B&W Nautilus), but that special sound. As a CD player, I use a Rega Planet (the old one with the starship Enterprise CD-tray), which is sounding absolutely great and I still own a small Rega Brio amp as backup. The Transrotor sports a modified Rega arm as well. I spent a lot of money and effort into stereo fifteen years ago, but hey, I wasn't into modelling then and it had paid off. Even after some moves, the equipment is still playing flawless, with my Symphonic Line amp waiting for a trip to Germany for a revision of the transistors. These age with the years. I've found them a very good background/driving music band. Bummer Phil, before you trash it, you should check the four little connectors on the back of the cartridge. Sometimes they are corroded or a wire came loose. There is also the possibility that you didn't connect the ground cable, if there is one, but maybe you have only adjust the cartridge/stylus correct, to get it playing cleanly. It's always good to analyze step by step, where the prob arises with turntables. Could be your pre-amp as well, if it wasn't used for a deck in 23 years. I took out my DVD from this 2011 Concert and was blown away, not only by the music, but by the atmosphere of a long lost time. Ben I too have been preoccupied with world events and no longer listen to music like I used to. So much of contemporary music is distasteful to me now. I now, when I'm driving, listen to a Chicago classical music station. The station my dad listened to. My father was really a fan, and expert on classical music. His knowledge on the subject was astounding. I now enjoy listening to it and listen to the station when I'm not listening to the news. Last night, while reading a book by Herman Hesse, the character in the book spoke about A composer named Buxtehude..... never heard of him. I looked him up. He was Dieterich Buxtehude, A composer from Denmark. I had Alexa play his music for A while before I went to bed. Generally it's something I've seen before so I don't have to pay close attention. If I hear a particular scene I want to watch I'll pause what I'm doing, watch the scene and then continue on with my modelling. I can't tell you how many times I've listened to Stalag 17 ! I watch, or rather, listen to it every time I find it on tv.
