belugawhaleman
Some more items today: From Amusing Hobby, their ARL-44 France Heavy Tank (35AO25) in 1/35. An obscure French tank that went from adoption to being a range target in just a few years. My first Amusing Hobby kit, it looks pretty good. It is nicely molded, and comes with photo-etch, and working individual track links. Also, from AK Interactive their Weathering Pencils For Modeling. I've been eyeing these for a while and finally found some at a reasonable price. I thought I would give them a try. There's 37 pencils in the set and they can be used dry or with water. And yes, another set of Friulmodel tracks. This time, their ATL-193 for FCM 36 French tank. I bought these for the ICM kit as the kits' rubber tracks.....not so good. I posted that kit on this thread, along with other kits back on March 11. The kit is otherwise very nice....although the two paint schemes look daunting.
ScottsGT
Had another slide in under the radar today! I’ve learned to shut off all the ring doorbell notifications when I’m expecting a package. LOL! But what’s this? An F-14 Tom? Is this a short Tomcat? Well, from the front it resembles a Tomcat! Oh man…all that resin goodness! Cannot wait to start this ugly ass gutless Cutlass beauty! A big thanks to Carl for thinking of me when he decided to liquidate it from his collection. 7 2

Glad it arrived safely. If postage wasn't so expensive I would have sent the Tomcat box intact just to have some fun. As it is, the Cutlass probably isn't much more work than building a Tamiya 'cat. 6

I've been thinking about the weathering pencils for a while and would appreciate your feelings and thoughts on them after testing them out. Then I would make a decision on whether or not to buy a set.
Peterpools
Scott Holy smokes, what a haul for sure: A Tamiya Tomcat and a Fisher Cutlass. Sure hope you are planning to have them cross the bench pretty soon.

I’m thinking the Cutlass may push back the Me 262 and Stuka I was going to do next. It’s starting to look like it’s going to be a slow build year with the wife’s health issues going on, so I might as well make it quality time for a unique build.

You can use them dry for highlighting, where some colors adhere better than others to the plastic. Where they really shine is dampened. You can produce a kind of multi color wash or panel line effect. Here are some pictures of my 1/20 MAK AmmoKnight, where I used the pencils dampened for interior weathering. Cheers Rob 6

I was wondering if others used these and their opinions of them. By the looks of it they work well.

Peterpools
Scott Nothing more important then your wife's health and recovery. Sure, fooled me as to how the Cutlass was mailed and absolutely going to be a quality build. 3

Cheers Rob Rob I'm pretty sure I remember this build thread and now knowing and remembering how the weathering pencils work, I'll absolutely be buying a set. The effects are brilliant and I need to develop a creative hand as yours. Thanks for the info and photographs.

It used captured ww2 German Maybach engines and in total....only about 60 of these tanks were made. Anyway, I think it was really a cool-looking tank. Its use of the Char 1 bis type tracks makes it really stand out ,I think, and I'm really looking forward to building this one!

Nice bike, with a air cooled engine, you don´t see that very much nowadays. I had a Suzuki GSX-750 once, a naked bike, which really liked, until I changed it for a KTM SM 950, but that was a different breed. belugawhaleman
The replacement for my ruined Takom SMK build arrived this morning. I'll be more careful this time! I was lucky to find one at a decent price.
BlrwestSiR
I picked up a couple kits at Heritagecon this past weekend. I've been looking for this Jeep for a bit. Not many on the ground here. Andy's HHQ had a booth at the show and it was almost half price so hard to say no. I'm hoping to do it as a British one with some extra MGs mounted on it. We'll see what I find. Would love to do a commando version. Next up is another harder to find kit. Yes ,I have one started already that I need to get back to but I want to do this one all folded up. It'll make a nice contrast to the first one which will be all clean.
belugawhaleman
I have that big Takom Jeep in my stash. It looks like a pretty good kit with great detail. Looking forward to your build. 2
