Got the paperwork all done on the Element yesterday morning and finally got to bring her home.

There's a recall that just started last month on them. The recall involves an inspection of the rear trailing arm mounts and those that are failing are being bought out by Honda. Which is starting to make the ones that pass be more in demand.

Gonna drop a L71 Big Block 427 tri-power in her, Carl ?

Today the replacement parts arrived for The Ute Barrier (TM) ...

GXh6amc.jpg

The first mission was to remove the damaged rail and replace with the new one ... So ... here we go - all caught up!

E0NO201.jpg

So now its time to look at the final stage of the installation ... the gate(s) for: The Ute Barrier (TM) :D

oBe6J99.jpg

The gates have 2 attachment points on either end at the sides for fitment of a triangular bracket/brace ... with a hand tightening bolt at the opposing apex for screwing into the adjustable rails on either side of the tub.

One of the holes on either end has a bump stop screwed in that needs to be removed and screwed into the base of the gate so this is done first ...

And then the bracket is attached ...

ZscSm7x.jpg

... And because we were well overdue for Murphy to insert his presence into the day - it turns out that the bump stops are a little on the soft/sticky side ...

RZJiki1.jpg

Even though it springs back into shape after being left alone for 30mins or so ... they're not all that good to be kept in their current role moving forward ...

OOyfYAX.jpg

Fortunately it seems to be a fairly generic sort of item ... and a quick trip down to Bunnings found a replacement ... Not exactly the same - slightly larger in all dimensions but well within the tolerances of what were dealing with here ...

wjiJ9IO.jpg

(Insert Grace Randolph Sooooooo here!) replace 4 bump stops ... place gates into position and screw in 4 hand tightening bolts and were done! ...

I couldn't be more impressed with the final result ...

That's really interesting and very cool, Rog...... and nice work you do as well...... I like that set up.....

I just had my Tahoe done with a Ceramic coating and holy cow that red paint looks a foot deep ! I also had the front bumper done with a PPF ( paint protection film ) , but JUST the bumper not 1/2 the hood like a lot of guys ( I think that looks like crap ) but the bumper was done so nicely, you can't even tell, even up close it is hard to see....... I'm pleased with the job that was done.....

With the hitch now installed on the Element, I got the new bike rack assembled.

It's made out in Vancouver so didn't take long to arrive here in Toronto.

Thankfully it's a fairly straightforward job of bolting it together. I had it done in about 45 minutes. I mounted it on the Element and put my sons' bikes on it to see how it worked. It'll hold all four of our bikes and we can still open the rear hatch.

Is it study? I mean is everything solid, no wiggling like some cheep ones....harv

It's definitely sturdy with no rattles. The instructions had torque specs for all the bolts and and they even have an anti-wobble mount in the hitch pin.  I think its about 75lbs so definitely not thin gauge metal.

Ugh, yeah not so much fun.

I remember when I wanted to get some 245/35/17s for my Civic. The shop owner refused as he said he didn't want me back there having to get the fender lips rolled. I argued that they would fit but he was adamant. Ended up with 235/40/17s which ended up giving me the grip I wanted so it worked out in the end.

It's the nature of the beast, I am going to lift the from a wee bit more, to level up and create more clearance .

I remember helping a friend do a lift on his Jeep YJ. We used hockey pucks for the frame lift. Drilled a hole through them and stuck them between the frame and body. Nothing dodgey about that at all...

  • 2 weeks later...

Time to wake up this turd from eternal hibernation.

the plan is :

-remove the battery relocation kit

-instal a new battery tray and wiring

- install 150A alternator

- install the rear bench, seatbelts etc

All if it in order to pass Alberta vehicle inspection

Oh no!  Another place that requires "inspections"!  Better off to have a friend that is 'qualified' to fill out the inspection form.  ...but you didn't hear that from me.

That superhero that run the cable to the battery box braced it against my fuel lines, naturally bend them , pull out some of the clamps to make it fit.  Unreal.
oh one the seal on my differential is leaking. Argh! Not much , but it’s dirty.  Don’t like dirty. :)
