What is on your bench right now ? Share a picture :)

The second model I bought when returning to modelling was ICM's 1/350 scale Grosser Kurfurst.  (I apologize for my lack of umlauts or other proper German grammar).

Who was the Grosser Kurfurst?  Here is what wiki says:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frederick_William,_Elector_of_Brandenburg

I started this 3-4 years ago, and have learned a lot about modelling while it sat on the shelf ignored.  The kit itself is a bit of a mishmash.  You have some parts available for the Jutland era fit, and you have parts for later.  But unfortunately you don't have all of the parts required for a Jutland fit.  So, I'll have to build a new Foremast and create some stuff for the anti-torpedo nets.

I also replaced all of the plastic barrels with metal:

VgrWid.jpg

And I try to use brass rod wherever it will look better than the plastic parts:

yMF9sw.jpg

I recently acquired an Artwox wooden deck for her.  I built the early, textured water base some time ago, using my own router.  There is yet much work to do with the water.

The 'stain' for the base is actually Tamiya clear Orange sprayed on with my airbrush.

I will watch this with some new found interest in the subject..... I watched a show the other day and the guy was on the USS Texas, and then on the USS Olympia ( a cruiser , I know , but still ) and I found them VERY interesting....and very cool they are still around..... one day I hope to maybe see them for real, but in this world we find ourselves in, I'm afraid I don't hold out much hope.... so with that said, ( maybe I shouldn't have , but what the Hell eh?? ) I will watch you bring this together ,Gaz, and maybe even consider building something like this myself.... so , Press On my friend, I am sitting in the front row.......

Finally got a hit of time at the bench and pretty much used all of it mucking about with rim and tire options for the Stratos.

The stock wheels and tires.

The fronts would need to be narrowed a bit and I'd repaint the centres in gold.

NSX rims and tires.

I'm leaning towards the second choice.

I vote 'b' as well.  The white metal rims of choice 'c' give me an optical illusion of the car hunched up, while choice 'a' looks too floral.

Go gold, 'b' is not bad either, but chrome rims on a Stratos? I hope 'c' is only a joke and makes the Lancia look like the piece of soap, the original donator looks like :D:2c:.

BirwestSIR I would go with option B, they look well smart.

My resolution to keep a tidy bench, did not last long! This is the Hobbyboss 1/48 A6E Intruder. Absolutely loving the build! Have always liked the A6, very tempted now to look for the trumpeter 1/32 one and do it in one of the many colourful schemes available.

Carl, I have to concur with the rest of the guys, the 'b' option, although I am an old fuddy uddy, black wheel just don't do it for me, but if you paint the center gold , that will make it pop... the stock rims look very heavy and clunky, like they should be on a truck.... so 4 votes so far for option 'B'..

Sectioned all four rims. The fronts needed two cuts, the rears one. Then I stripped the chrome off them. Took less than 5 minutes dipped in Super Clean.

The fronts needed a new inner lip so made that from strip styrene.

With a coat of paint on.

Mocked up on the body.

This is pretty similar to the box top photos of the actual car.

I'd second Rob and say stick with the stock gold ones. They're the ones I remember on the diecast kit I had as a kid - brush painted in black enamel with the gold wheels I thought it looked killer! Brush marks everywhere....  wish I was so easily pleased now.

Sounds like my diecast Stratos. But it was the later road car racer with the huge aero lip and wing.

Had a huge scare last night with the Stratos. I thought I'd lost one of the shocks. I couldn't find it anywhere, even cleaned the bench up a bit looking for it. I started looking at options which mostly involved stealing the rear shocks from the same 934 the wheels came from. Called it a night at that point.

This morning I looked again and still no luck. I finally decided to double check the kit box. The part is still on the sprue...

Had a week of leave from work so managed to get a lot of paintwork done on the Typhoon.

All done with Tamiya acrylics. I've used the Ammo paints on my last few builds but I wasn't sure how well they'd handle all the masking needed here, so back to Tamiya as they are very robust in my experience and again, no problems here.

All markings done with Maketar masks. The chipping was done using White Stuff frisket and I'll brush paint some finer chipping later once I get to the weathering.

Gloss coat went on tonight so it's oils next....

Did you do a WIP on this? If you did sorry I missed it........love to see more pics......

Hi Phil

Sorry I didn't do a WIP for this one as I've never been happy with the quality of my photos in the past. I'll try and post more here as I progress.
