One idea, if you put ceiling board to the beams, you could have adjustable LED spots recessed in it. Another trick we use in interiors is a wall / ceiling edge cove light. BlrwestSiR Posted June 5, 2021 Share Posted June 5, 2021 Thanks Phil & Harv! I'm going to leave it as is. The rest of the basement isn't finished either. In fact, only two walls have drywall on them. The worklights are quite a bit brighter than what I had before so pot lights would be over kill. Just wanted to start getting things out of the way first as we also have to move our oldest into his own room. I was half worried I'd get the angles wrong and it would be either too big or small. I used a strip of 2x3' mounted to the wall as a support. After gloss coating the decals, I brush chipped with different grey/blue tones and some more with interior green as primer color. Then it was time for oil colors heavy diluted with thinner, first in blue and then in a color similar to interior green, which were spreaded and partly removed with a saw brush and some thinner. For effect, I used different brushes with the oil thinner mix and dabbed carefully to break the uniform appearance of the panels. I installed the Brassin engine and exhausts, which was a bit fiddly and needed some grinding on the engine mount, not so cool after painting. Finally the H-cat received a coat of matte varnish, after I finished some detail painting and repairs. On the pics, I found some other spots for rework. DocRob Posted June 21, 2021 Share Posted June 21, 2021 Besides some chaos with the remainders of the Hellcat build, the started PZL, I opted for the 1/24 Ford GT from Tamiya as an in between project, to train my car painting skills. I wanted to test Tamiya's lacquer paints for cars and they are absolutely great. Thinned with two thirds of lacquer thinner they spray smooth and fine grained and the gloss black is really glossy. I cut all the parts from the sprues and cleaned them and will poco a poco airbrush everything. I haven't primed the painted parts and I'm not sure, if I will prime the body. It will be sprayed in metallic blue and hopefully has the same tone, needed for my Kai Phantoms fuel tanks. I'm not sure, if I WIP this build, as it's prone to failure, because, it's my first car build in ages and I will use lots of new techniques and materials. Thanks Peter and indeed, the Ford GT kit is superb. I can only imagine, how hard it must have been to engineer the complicated body panels of the car, but they fall together. Building the GT is a breezer, painting and finishing will be the challenge here. I have absolutely no experiences with car builds and high gloss finishes, so the Ford is my test dummy, before I start more serious car projects. Yesterday I sprayed some silver titanium among others and I absolutely loved the result and this is my new goto titanium ahead of the good looking, but unbelivable fragile Alclad and the nice, but not perfect toned Xtreme Metal from AK. After trying on some sprues, I decided to spray the non body colors directly onto the plastic without primer. I had no reactions with the plastic at all, but will prime the body, wanting a durable coat for sanding and polishing. I finally put up the paint racks and started hanging up my tools and random detail bits. I've also moved the lights so there's less shadow now. On the work bench, I've also moved the lights slightly and put up a spare TV at the end. The T-34 is my son's most recent build.
