BlrwestSiR Posted February 28, 2019 Author Share Posted February 28, 2019 Ok, so a bit more work done. There a number of circular bits on the main float. Some of them are on the seam line so decided to sand them down and replace them with styrene discs I punched out. Hopefully they'll be more defined than the original kit detail. I started adding some of the PE detail to the cockpit bits. The ammo box for the nose mounted 0.30cal has several holes in it to indicate remaining ammo rounds. The Eduard exterior PE set had those discs but they're flat and they want you to emboss them. What I'm finding is that you really need to dry fit parts and some need a slight tweak before they go together nicely. So it's almost best to approach it like a limited run kit. I'm using the Eduard PE set for the kit. There's a couple bits that I'll have to use the kit PE for like the belts as I'm not fond of the prepainted ones. On the engine, if you’re closing the cowl, you don’t need all the rigamaroll on the backside of the engine. You can’t see any of it. And try doing the engine without valve covers. I don’t think you need them, and you can’t see them. They don’t fit well either, so save yourself the trouble. I sanded mine almost completely off. Just make sure to align the engine, nose ring, cowl pieces, and cowl flaps by careful trial and error. You’ll be surprised how well it fits if the engine is on correctly. If it doesn’t fit, you’ve done something wrong. Somehow, while test fitting the big cylindrical bit on the back of the engine it's gone missing. Which means I wouldnt be able to mount the engine as per the kit so onto to something kit bashed. Peter Agreed Peter. It’s definitely a very nice kit, and OOB, it builds into an awesome model when finished. BlrwestSiR Posted August 31, 2019 Author Share Posted August 31, 2019 (edited) Ok, with the bench cleaned up I thought this deserved a new bit of progress. I had started painting the cockpit bits in dull dark green before calling a time out for no particular reason. So that means some bits are already done but more paint will be forthcoming. Looking at the seat, there's a pair of springs on either side that seem to be fairly prominent so I added them. I used some miniature springs and stretch them slightly before cutting them to length. I scratched up a replacement scarf ring for the tail gunner/observer as that was another bit that walked away. The radio gear is mounted on springs. Eduard makes you fold up a pile of PE discs to replicate this. Instead I cut apart some of the spring wire and glued the short pieces into place. More to come... BlrwestSiR Posted September 2, 2019 Author Share Posted September 2, 2019 A small update for this morning. I started doing some more paint work. The fuselage interior has been given a coat of Dull Dark Green. The white rod along the bottom is for the control stick. KH has the control sticks go into a short housing front and back but it looks to me like they're connected by a tube so that's what I did. Next up, I painted and wired the engine. Since both John and Ernie mentioned not much is seen, this is all I'll do.
