It certainly isn't a "shake and bake" kit but with patience it can be a really nice model. I enjoyed building mine but it did have it's "moments"! :)

That's certainly the case so far. But with a bit of extra attention, it seems to going together well. I guess I'll know more, the further I get into it.

I had a lot of problems getting the engine to mount right. The provided mounts/braces threw off the cowling fit. My solution was to toss the supplied braces/mounts and do this. Far less of a hassle. :)

Nice progress on a kit that surely eill give you a bit of a fight all the way. Great idea with reinforcing the floats and following John’s build suggestions is the way to go.

Keep ‘em comin

Not a bad idea John. Thanks for the tip. It's not like you'll see any of it once it's done so makes sense to me.

Thanks Peter. Parts definitely need to be test fit before committing to glue. Can't just throw it together but I'm enjoying it.

Ok, so a bit more work done. There a number of circular bits on the main float. Some of them are on the seam line so decided to sand them down and replace them with styrene discs I punched out.

Hopefully they'll be more defined than the original kit detail.

I started adding some of the PE detail to the cockpit bits.

The ammo box for the nose mounted 0.30cal has several holes in it to indicate remaining ammo rounds. It's probably a bit hard to tell but I drilled them out so that it might easier to see them in the finished cockpit.

More soon.

I LOVE this Aeroplane, but I am truly wary of KH. I have the Bronco, but it just looks so scary to build..

Is the PE you are using part of this kit or AM? You are making me think I want to build this.

Very fine work Carl , this amount of detailing will pay off at the end for sure.

Thanks Martin! With the big greenhouse on the Kingfisher, I think a bunch of it will be visible versus the B-25.

Thanks! I'm actually taking kind of slow at the moment. Just doing a bit here and there. Certainly not the pace that I was doing the BF110 at.

Nice work on the float details - PE is really going to bring up the level of interior detail - looking mighty good

Thanks Peter! The Eduard exterior PE set had those discs but they're flat and they want you to emboss them. I just figured this would be easier.

Thanks Nige! This is my first KH kit. It definitely won't be a shake and bake. What I'm finding is that you really need to dry fit parts and some need a slight tweak before they go together nicely. So it's almost best to approach it like a limited run kit.

I'm using the Eduard PE set for the kit.  There's a couple bits that I'll have to use the kit PE for like the belts as I'm not fond of the prepainted ones. And nobody else makes any.

Come on Nige you can do it, but first you have to finish the Lanc, B-24j, etc, etc...lol

Ron, Nice sounds like me. Start a bunch of kit and see where the dust settles.

Carl, I agree completely with John, ditch the kit engine mounts and scratch your own.   On the engine, if you’re closing the cowl, you don’t need all the rigamaroll on the backside of the engine. You can’t see any of it. And try doing the engine without valve covers. I don’t think you need them, and you can’t see them. They don’t fit well either, so save yourself the trouble.  I sanded mine almost completely off. Just make sure to align the engine, nose ring, cowl pieces, and cowl flaps by careful trial and error. You’ll be surprised how well it fits if the engine is on correctly. If it doesn’t fit, you’ve done something wrong. When it’s right, it literally falls together and gives you a better high than hitting a grand slam.

Looks like I might not have a choice. Somehow, while test fitting the big cylindrical bit on the back of the engine it's gone missing. :wallbash:

Which means I wouldnt be able to mount the engine as per the kit so onto to something kit bashed.

Or is it just bashed?

Carl, that’s a Blessing in disguise.   Mounting that engine correctly made my forehead bigger.

I always wondered why kit manufactures have to re-invent the wheel, try to add details that not overly complicate a kit but normally don’t fit and the instructions on what to do are as bad.

Agreed Peter. It’s definitely a very nice kit, and OOB, it builds into an awesome model when finished.

But that cowl and engine assembly confounds me.

Ok, with the bench cleaned up I thought this deserved a new bit of progress. I had started painting the cockpit bits in dull dark green before calling a time out for no particular reason. So that means some bits are already done but more paint will be forthcoming.

Looking at the seat, there's a pair of springs on either side that seem to be fairly prominent so I added them.

IMG_20190831_124850-L.jpg

I used some miniature springs and stretch them slightly before cutting them to length.

IMG_20190831_125402-L.jpg

I scratched up a replacement scarf ring for the tail gunner/observer as that was another bit that walked away.

IMG_20190831_162317-L.jpg

The radio gear is mounted on springs. Eduard makes you fold up a pile of PE discs to replicate this. Instead I cut apart some of the spring wire and glued the short pieces into place.

More to come...

A small update for this morning. I started doing some more paint work. The fuselage interior has been given a coat of Dull Dark Green.

IMG_20190831_173958-L.jpg

The white rod along the bottom is for the control stick. KH has the control sticks go into a short housing front and back but it looks to me like they're connected by a tube so that's what I did.

IMG_20190831_174017-L.jpg

Next up, I painted and wired the engine. Since both John and Ernie mentioned not much is seen, this is all I'll do.

IMG_20190901_230600-L.jpg

Lastly, I painted a number of the cockpit boxes in black to get them ready for installation.
