What is on your bench right now ? Share a picture :)
DocRob replied to Martinnfb's topic in Modelling Discussion
That looks so convincing, that I thought you would have to use a saw, nails and white glue to assemble not a Xacto and plastic glue, great. Cheers Rob -
CSM Nieuport 17 and figures
DocRob replied to Drdave's topic in LSM 1/32 and Larger Aircraft Ready for Inspection
Sweet looking bird, Dave, Nice contrast between the camo and the colorful markings and blue hood. Sometime I wonder, why they even used camo after adding al that bright bits and pieces, but what a treasure for us kit builders. Cheers Rob -
Dragon/Tamiya T-34/43 complete 18/Mar/19
DocRob replied to GazzaS's topic in LSM Armour Finished Work
You nailed that T-34 Gaz, the pose is so appealing dramatic with the tank on the verge of tripping over and the tilted turret. Some smoke from the exhaust would be the only thing added, but don't ask me how. I like the subtle modulation of the 4BO and the snow is looking very convincing to my eye. очень хорошо товарищ Cheers Rob -
Renault Char B1 - French heavy Hitter

Thanks Phil, hopefully my dio idea works out. Cheers Rob -
Hi Nige, I found the fit of the engine was ok on mine. The biggest issues I had was to fit the engine and it's mounts into the fuselage. If I remember it right you have to add the wing section and then the engine and that doesn't work because of differently orientated attachment points. The other critical part was to get all the cowlings aligned. In the beginning I dreamt about having them removeable but that idea was skipped, because I found no satisfactory way to realize that. In the end you will get a decent result with that ZM kit, but it is somehow overengineered and toyisch in detail in places. Have fun with yours, I will follow. Cheers Rob

Renault Char B1 - French heavy Hitter
DocRob replied to DocRob's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Thanks Gus, it's so much easier to do convincing weathering on tanks. One of my next projects will be a long abandoned Japanese light tank, completely rotten and half sunken on a beach somewhere. I'm looking forward to that. Cheers Rob -
Nice grimy bird. looks like it had been ages under a cruel sun. The marbling is looking spot on. If the effect is to harsh you can always mist a little over, Cheers Rob

Thanx Mike, it's great to do some armor once in a while, it's pure fun and you can hardly overdo the weathering. Cheers Rob -

Oha, the 'French Touch', the yellow headlight nearly slipped my attention, so back to the bench, adding some Chrome pigments and clear yellow, voila. Cheers Rob -

Hola Senhores, I call the beast done for the moment and have to think now about my little dio. To get a 'used' look I added a lot of different pigments for earth depots and smoke residues. There were some different kinds of grime added and 'formed' with a flat brush and some odorless spirit. I left some dotted oil stains with a slightly glistening effect around the engine covers and maintenance doors. The pavement is only temporary and might be part of my little dio, if my figure painting skills don't go south. Cheers Rob -
Ernie, here is a build from The Modelling News guys. https://www.themodellingnews.com/2018/06/build-guide-pt-i-andy-builds-paints.html Cheers Rob

Renault Char B1 - French heavy Hitter
DocRob replied to DocRob's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Thanks Peter, compared to planes, weathering tanks is pure fun and less risk to overdo. you can add layers and layers without ruining the look and as the icing on the cake you put on some boot prints and smoked Gauloise butts . Cheers Rob -
You are a machine, man, on one of these pictures I can spot the Uhu guns, I wonder how the Mil will end with some 'Schräge Musik' hopefully synchronized with the main rotor . Both the 219 and the 24 look mean, bash them together, …, taken away. I'm in on this one two, albeit I have only a 1/72 Eduard / Zvezda 24 in my stash. Bring it on. Cheers Rob

Renault Char B1 - French heavy Hitter

Thanks Gaz, the design of that tank is unique, somewhere between WW1 and WW2, combined with the visual attitude of being a moving fortress. To me the subject itself has to pull a trigger in me, historical and technical reasons are second thoughts. And this French Char, combined with their appealing and varying camo schemes, does that. I still think of building another one and do a steam punk conversion. Thanks Hubert, I always loved the yellow tinted headlights of French cars when I was young. I owned a R-20 with yellow headlights when I was a student in West Berlin and albeit it's not a beauty, I somehow liked the car. I can't remember the Colour of the headlights of the French garrisons tanks in Berlin, pity, I was more used to the view of American M-48 and M-60 tanks, as I lived in the American Sector. Correctness or not, I will use some clear yellow to give the Char a French touch. Cheers Rob -
Renault Char B1 - French heavy Hitter
DocRob replied to DocRob's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Buenos Dias Senhores, after some more weathering I decided to add the tracks, to weather them to a fitting state. The Char got a two tone brush chipping and got treated with different types of pigment. Steel pigments for heavy abrasion and a filtering layer of light earth pigments all over. With some enamel mud wash with dabbed in earth pigments I created some mud caking and decided against wet mud specks, because I will show the beast parked on a street. Some more grease stains and grime will be added later, after everything dried and evaluated. BTW, does anybody know, if the headlight should be, typically French, yellow? Cheers Rob -
Not far from seeing the Bat in it's true form. I hope everything will fit, these modular kits give me the creeps. Cheers Rob

PBJ-1 "devil dog " straffer
DocRob replied to CrankyCrafstman's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
The mentioned set is for a PBJ-1H and not a J. Maybe that's the reason for the difference. There's a pic in Ernies post which shape ways looks like the one from the PM-set. https://forum.largescalemodeller.com/topic/5837-caught-in-the-doldrums-so-drag-one-off-the-sod/?tab=comments#comment-75099 Cheers Rob -
Mix up or not, I will follow and hope to learn something for mine out of it. I have all the goodies as well except for the resin transparencies, which were included in the firs draft only. Have fun. Cheers Rob
