  1. Rob Nice choice and enjoy your new camera and I'm sure you will see the difference in the images and what the camera can do as compared to its predecessor. Nothing like shooting with a new camera or lens. Of course, that's coming from a Nikon shooter since the 1970!
  2. THE WING Please excuse the photographs as my Nikon is at Nikon having the sensor cleaned and a general cleaning service as well and thusly, I used my iPhone. I was too forgetful, rushed to get the photos taken and neglected to clean the photo setup area, so there is a lot of dust and dirt floating around. The wing looked simple and of course it wasn’t. There are options for the flaps to be down and with all the PE ribs inside bracing or a separate set of flaps in the up position. Looking at a lot of photos, most P-40B ready on the flightline had the flaps up (as with my last Spitfire build) and so I went that route. While GWH includes a very nicely detailed sheet of PE, the PE is very thin for 32nd scale in some applications and just a bit too thin to be as effective as I wished. Another small issue was Parts PEA 35 as called out in the instructions which are covers behind the wing MG’s that could have been larger to glue more securely in place, are not numbered as #35, which on the fret is a seatbelt part. Finding the correct parts isn’t hard but not only did they get it wrong, it’s not on the correction sheet. Why even have the parts as PE for these parts, just have a solid wing and panel lines denoting the access panel, as there aren’t any details to be seen. Just no reason to do it the way they did. Other then creating un-necessary PE. I’m assuming parts PEA 10-13 are spoilers or dive brakes on the underside of the wing, are way too thin and sit way too deep into the opening in the close position and I replaced them with Evergreen strip. As normal, the wing leading edge MG covers needed some work to fit but weren’t too bad at all. Ailerons, elevators and the rudder are designed to be movable, way too toy like for me, I positioned and glued them as I wanted. I added all the delicate cockpit details that are attached to the cockpit floor which is the top of the wing along with some brilliant molded on details. The cockpit floor area was masked out, primed, painted and glossed. The details received a Tamiya Panel Line Wash of either Black or Dark Brown to bring out the details and then a semi mat clear coat. Some dry brushing, detail painting and the cockpit floor was done. As with most of the kit so far, I felt it is over engineered and what I thought would be an easy assembly but wasn’t. From here, I’ve spent an inordinate amount of time test fitting the fuselage to the wing and a ton of tweaking was needed to finally sit the fuselage in place correctly. I finished up the test fitting with the left hand side wing fairing – fit is OK but a lot of Mr Surfacer is going to be needed to fill in the gaps. Cockpit Floor details looking good and for me a bit of weathering as well - new ground for sure. Underside PE spoilers/dive brakes (?) replaced with Evergreen Strip. Notice the nice added wheel well detal parts along with the canvas covered wheel wells - nice touch. Finally, the basic test fitting is done - loads of tweaking taking hours to get everything to fit. So far, I'm hoping I can still correct the wing fairing for a better fit, a separate part. Less the wing fillet. Ruidder, and tail feathers have been added and tweaked as well. Re-scribing is in order.🙃
  3. Carl Awesome progress and the weathering is spot on - looking so good.
  4. John With my luck, I would forget the model is in the hot water for way too many hours and melt it to a ball a Silly Putty. I've actually never had any luck straightening out warped solid resin parts and have been very fortunate to have been able to call and get replacements from Paul.
  5. Gaz Weathering looks so good and those mask/stencils are amazing. Completely agree they are much more effective on solid colors they over a weathered surface, but I guess that would be the actual way we would see it in the flesh. Nice tight closeup of the yellow fuselage stripe - lots going on to look so realistic. Going to order a set of masks and give them a try - they do look mighty good.
  6. Ernie January 1st would be much better for me as I want to finish up my P-40 before starting the GB. I'm not good at working on more then one kit at a time.🙃
  7. Right with Harv So good to see the Jug back on the bench and underway again.
  8. John Nice save for sure. I was lucky when I built my Sea Fury, Paul was able to send me a few "rejected cowls and wings" and from all the parts, I found a set that worked. Paul always stood behind his work and was there to help. Just so sad, what he and his family experienced with the forest fire, losing everything.
  9. John Worked just perfectly
  10. Rob Got ya. Following and taking notes
  11. Chris Just a Tamiya tape fan fanatic these days - just works so well and can be found everywhere. Never tried the ZM tape and I'm sure more and more manufacturers will be jumping on the bandwagon. Interested to see what experiences anyone else has with it.
  12. Gaz Nice start on the Dragon SdKfz 250 and it's easy to see, working the poising the figures, means another dio is coming our way ... looking forward to your progress
  13. kev Some mighty nice progress and the wing cammo does look good to me
  14. Sasha Decal work is perfect and you're in the home stretch now. Looking mighty good
  15. Fantastic - still just blown away by the cammo - incredible air brush skills and what a stellar build.
  16. Gaz Never knew and it does make sense. Many years ago, when I was first learning to fly, some of the J3 Cubs had wooden Sensenich props. I couldn't tell and difference in performance between wood and metal but then again, we're only talking 65HP 🙃 I can see the theory of the wooden prop but on any wheels up landing, with a prop stoppage, it's a required engine teardown but the internal damage should be less.
  17. John Some radical surgery but it worked - the wings have what seems as the same degree of anhedral. Nice going - pretty radical fixed but it was the best option left.
  18. Rob Nice work on the preliminary wing wearing - surely going to be a well worn bird.
  19. Bill Just be careful, ammonia is nasty stuff.
  20. Harv Nice haul for sure
  21. Martin Had a feeling another version of the kit would be released as there are a lot of extra parts. But after working on the "AVG" version, I'm passing on anymore GWH kits.
  22. John Nice going and has to be a record even for you
  23. John Lots of potential just the same.
  24. John Always glad to see a Shelf Queen back on the bench and ready for a redo. Looking forward to following your project
  25. Chris Just seems to come with the territory and if a fan removes the fumes and smell, so be it. Always better to be as safe as possible. I'm sure none of the paints, stains, glues and of course resin are any good for us. I think the Mig PLW is enamel based and that should say it all
