Hello Friends,

Here is my newest project I will start.

It’s a 617 Sqn Dambuster Tornado in a special livery to commemorate the 70th jubilee of the Dambuster raid on the German dams in May 1943.

Since I have already build the HK Lancaster in the livery of Guy Gibsons‘ Aircraft this Tornado will be displayed together on exhibitions like Telford 2022.

Here‘s a picture of my Lancaster:

And here are some pics of the original aircraft:

Basic kit is the new Tornado from Italeri. The Tornado will also be equipped with electronics from Magic Scale Modeling:

Looking forward to this Kai. Interesting to see how the kit goes. Seen some mixed reviews but not sure how unbiased some are, Italeri seem to generate as much hate as Trumpeter from some people!

However, as we know the Mirage III wasn't a picnic anyway! 😃

Hi Kai

Going to be an epic build and a terrific two aircraft theme and display concept. Sound and light AM 👍. I'll be the guy in the middle of the front row start to finish, eating no salt, no butter popcorn (yup, on a diet and needing to lose a few pounds).

Keep 'em comin

Still on the wish list but waiting for the ecr.

Thank you Mark. I already ordered the ECR. Was announced on the Italeri homepage.

Thank you! I’m also curious how the build will be.

Hello friends,

I was able to make a start yesterday. Started with the preparation of the cockpit for the RedFox set. Had to grind away all details on various panels. Time consuming job and not yet finished. Cockpit tub still to be done.

Here are some progress pics:

All blue areas have to be grinded.

These are the components of the set

And this is the status after 2 hours of work.

Time consuming but necessary to be done carefully in order to avoid damage to each part.

Update to follow soon.

You’re off and running🏃‍♂️ and as with most builds the front office is the first area to tackle. Very nice work on removing all the raised details in preparation for the Red Fox 3D detail set, which looks excellent - lots of prep work for sure.

I’ve become a huge fan of the Quinta 3D printed cockpit sets and am very curious how they compare to the Red Fox set with their caution that they could break easily when cut with a scalpel; the Quinta sets are a flexible material and I haven’t managed to break any, even with my clumsy hands these days. Looking forward to your comparison after the front office is completed.

Hi friends!
Thanks a lot for your replies. Much appreciated! I‘ve been very busy at work this week so no time for modeling. Was too tired on the evenings.

But now with the weekend ahead I will make some progress hopefully.

It's all your fault - I've been front and center and consuming untold boxes of pop corn and snacks waiting for the build to begin:popcorn:🥨

Work does come first and it's now the weekend.  I'm front and center

You guys are magnificent tacticians. You pick a slow developing build to satisfy your uncontrolled popcorn consume and then blame the thread starter about the calories :D.

Bring the Tornado on Kai, I can't stand that much Martinis :wine:.

Cheers Rob

Don’t have that much time in the moment for modeling but I hope to improve soon Rob.

I don’t want to be responsible for too much Popcorn and Martinis 😉

To avoid Rob drinking too much Martinis I continued today with the cockpit.

I grinded and sanded away all the details of the side-panels and started with the application of the RedFox instruments where possible without painting the part before application.

This is the actual status:

All details on the sidepanels sanded away.

The left console applied for trial. Not glued.

All side controls applied for trial. Looks really good to me.

Rear IP. All panels glued in place with superglue. Dials and screens enhanced with Future.

Front IP. Same enhancement as on the rear IP.

Next step is to paint all cockpit parts and apply the missing RedFox Panels.

Thats it for today. Next update to come soon Rob.
