Completely agree that is so many instances, the AM will dictate where and how the detailing is done and the direction of the build, less OOB builds. Keep ‘em comin Peter Thank you, Peter. And if you don't mind, we'll segue right into an update. A couple weeks ago I received a set of 3d Printed screens from FC Model Trend. I'm not really sure if they are an improvement on the PE screens of yore. I guess we'll know when they are painted. A little MORE clean-up with a drill bit and added to the model: Next will follow a boring set of regular views showing that construction is mostly finished. The spare tracks made me drill holes in them, and make them appear realistically held in place by bent steel rods. Of course, I used copper wire. And finally... Figures to add to the base and kit giving it scale and 'life'. I haven;t done any camouflaged uniforms before... so this should be tortuous. Happy modelling!

AlanG
How do you find the Dragon kit Gaz? I've heard their kits can be a bit fiddly with lots of small bits to contend with. They have a wealth of subjects i would like to have a crack at but the though of lots of fiddly bits kind of puts me off (and their bloomin' prices).

Not many fiddly pieces at all. The suspension is fixed, like a Tamiya kit and there is no PE. The only area with a lot of parts are the indy link tracks... which only took a few hours in total to separate from the sprue and clean. Apparently this kit has been re-released. There are no interior parts whatsoever. 2-piece barrel. You'll need AM grill screens. 2
GazzaS
Hello Friends, Meet another component of the build. Some Luftwaffe infantry. In the Wehrmacht, the major role of the of the infantry squad was to support the machine gun. These guys have full kit. Canteen. bread bag. Mess tin. And personal weapons. Each one of them is like a tiny kit in it's own right. I haven't even touched the heads yet, and each kit will require some kind of strap whether it be the NCO's binoculars or the rifle straps of the two ammunition bearers. I didn't accomplish much on this weekend. Not looking forward to fabricating straps and slings. I'm debating on whether I should use brass foil, or smash some lead wire flat and cut it to a desired width. I also have some placement errors to fix. The directions weren;t very helpful in placing the mess tins, and I just found a photo showing me the right way. Happy modelling! 9
Kaireckstadt
These figures look great Gary. Have you ever thought of using Tamiya Tape for the straps and slings? Or is it too thick? Maybe it’s a suggestion to think about.

I'll have some learning to do, for certain.
DocRob
I like lead foil from wine bottle caps for this purpose. It's easy to cut, easy to bend, stays in the desired form and is not sticky. Watch your MP42 Gaz, the barrel looks already bent. Cheers Rob 2

Trying to drill out the bore and the sight put a lot of pressures on it. Lead foil would be handy, I suppose. The wife and I don;t like wine, though. 10 hours ago, belugawhaleman said: Your work looks great so far. Well done! Thanks, mate. 1
BlrwestSiR
The figures look good Gary. I always have trouble cleaning up the mould seams with all the folds in the clothing. See if you can get some Aizu tape. It's like Tamiya tape but comes in different widths as narrow as 0.4mm. I think BNA might carry it. GazzaS
Hallo meine lieben Klebstoffschnüffler und Schnüfflerinen. For those of us less fortunate, it says "Hello my fellow glue sniffers and female glue sniffers." ... I think. Anyway... I showed my last set of photos on Farcebook and three fellows told me that my 3d printed screens looked like shit. One made a direct comparison to Airfix, and another asked if they were home made. That's OK, I thought they were a little thick myself. It's good to get other opinions, some time. So, instead of buying new, I decided to cannibalize my Tamiya Panther D. Taking the screens meant that I might as well take whatever else is necessary to complete the build. Like the tow cables.... yellow arrows. But then I discovered that the Dragon parts that the cable eye has passing through it were too stubby to hold the cable in place. So, I had to take those as well. I also took the cable cutters to replace the pair I had broken. I added bolts to the mesh screens, too. They're not easy to see in some places due to all pof the gray and bare metal reflections. I also beat up the screen so that they would look like they were walked on and beat up. Hopefully all will look better once painted and weathered. Happy modelling.
BlrwestSiR
Those new screens look much better than the 3D ones you had. Definitely worth the swap out. And I like the bent/walked on look. The other additional details look great too. Carl

DocRob
Very nice, I like the slightly irregular look of the Zimmerit. It looks handmade, which it actually was, if I remember it right. Cheers Du alter Klebstoffschnüffler Rob 3
AlanG
PE screens for this will always look better than printed ones imho. And they look even better when beat up a little like you say. Something to remember when i do mine.
