As mentioned elsewhere, I'm trying to bring back the spark of enjoying model building and for me it seems the answer is dumping weathering! Just build the kit for what it is...a plastic model. It doesn't fly, it doesn't burn oil, and it doesn't leak fluids. I know this is controversial so bear with me. No pre-shading, no black basing, no post shading....if it says paint is green, then I shall paint it green! The only concession I will make to weathering is to use lightened colors to enhance the scale effect of the unit. (basically adding 20-25% white or otherwise to avoid a complete toy like appearance.) BlrwestSiR Posted January 7, 2022 Share Posted January 7, 2022 Looks great Ryan. It'll be like the built up models you see on many Japanese kit boxes. The paint/condition is prefect on them. belugawhaleman Posted January 8, 2022 Share Posted January 8, 2022 Great work so far. I'm not big on heavy weathering on my models, mostly because I lack the skill, honestly speaking. I've seen models with mud slathered on them and truthfully, I hate that. Hopefully, I'll eventually become skilled enough to add a slightly weathered appearance on my models but for now, I'll build models as I like them for my own enjoyment. I like what you've done so far and I hope you enjoy your build. I've been trying to purchase the subject of your build for some time but this model seems to be universally sold out! Spitfire Posted January 8, 2022 Share Posted January 8, 2022 Great kit, I built one last year and it was a pleasure to sit at the bench with it, and I like the way that you are thinking, I'm a used but not abused type of builder so not a fan of heavily weathered subjects even though they may be historically correct. Looks like we were posting exactly at the same time and I at first didn’t see the last two photos. I’ve never been a weathering guy, preferring my models to be build in a museum condition or fresh out on the flight line.
