Looking real good and shows good clean construction, as small errors and goofs can't be hidden - just a different discipline and my way of building. I'm not a weathering guy and prefer my models to be either as a museum type display aircraft or just off the assembly line and on the Flightline for the first time. I do like to add a bit of wash and some very light dry brushing but that's as far as I go.

Keep 'em comin

Hi Peter,

Nice of you to comment, recently I have found new joy in tossing weathering and especially washes. Instructions say paint it green, I paint it green and so on.

I use Model Air paint so if I get out of the lines I can re color wash the borders with the original; airbrushed color. That's how I get the areas look so crisp, believe me my hands aren't that steady!  Oh and plenty of masking.

Finally got the bush placement sorted out. The bushes with leaves are the ones glued in place (alone with the small trees. I've had to select more bushes as some of the ones i made up i either didn't like or they didn't fit the space available. But probably another two hours of work on the bushes left then it is onto painting the two big trees. Trying to figure out what colour (other than brown) to paint them. After that then it's gluing on their leaves and gluing the trees to the dio base.

Any recommendations/observations on the dio?

Hi Alan, looks great to me. Just been looking back at photos from our holidays over there and the soil colour looks pretty spot on. Some areas of the region it looks a little greyer but generally that looks fairly representative of Normandy.

To build clean is actually so much harder then dumping a whole bunch of weathering products on in order to hide imperfections. I like dirty subjects, but I really appreciate clean and crisp look as well.
awesome possums :)

My 1/48 figures completed.  The final steps were some highlights of the fabric and then a matte coat.

Ryan, nice looking cockpit. Very clean as others have mentioned. What plane is it? Something Japanese?

Gaz, the figures looks fantastic. I need to practice more on my figure painting.

The SDF-1 is finished as far as building goes.

I've started on the decals.

They're a bit stiff so might try some detail painting instead of using them in some spots.

Glad you guys like it.

Gus. I'm afraid the mud only comes in one colour. Morayshire's finest brown.... straight from my garden :)

Looks good then Alan. You'd be stuffed down here in the Mearns where all we've got is real red clay!

I would, mate...   if I could complete enough of my own builds.  Really...  it's only been a year from my first crappy attempts to the less crappier, now.   Excluding my childhood attempts.  Anyone can do it, you just have to do it and accept less-than-perfect with each figure.  I am on a facebook group called Military Figure Painters Association.  There are guys there that make 1/35 figs look almost real.

You have started a trend with me Gaz, I was inspired by your Luftwaffe builds to get the Ju 88 then I bought the HE111-H6 and now after seeing your 110, I’m looking at ICM  but they haven’t issued one yet, any suggestions…..

If your looking for a 17, this is the go-to kit, ICM plastic with all the goodies and decals. I will pull mine from the shelf soon.

Cheers Rob
