Bent wing bird- Tamiya F4U-1A
Kaireckstadt replied to BlrwestSiR's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Peter, I have a tip regarding the off-center topic: When I have to drill a centered hole into e.g. MG or an exhaust-port, I use a needle and press it carefully into the center marked with a pencil to create a small hole that is used as a guide for the drill and keeps it in the center when drilling is started. This method works quite well and avoids that the drill is moving out of the center when you start drilling. All these holes I drill by hand and not with my Proxxon-Tool. But this is nothing new to you... Maybe you can give it a try. Kai -
Bent wing bird- Tamiya F4U-1A

Great progress and beautiful detail-painting. I faced the same problems with the wingspar like you and did it exactly like you. The wing outer-halfs fit perfectly when the spar is assembled correct. -

Awesome build of this big beast in every aspect! The camo looks spot on! I‘ve one in my stash which hopefully will turn out as yours! -
Israeli Mirage III C with Atar9C

I can fully understand you Rob. That’s why I had no Italeri in my stash for years. Things changed when DACO announced a big decal set in 32nd Scale for the 104. It took Danny years to bring it to market but when I had it in my hands I was overwhelmed: so many decals, options, zappings and maintenance stencils without any spelling mistakes. The only available kits at that time were the ancient Hasegawa with shape issues and the Italeri which is really good regarding shape. So I bought it and had to invest in Eduard Brassin and Resin and do a lot of scratchbuilding to build it. It really turns into a nice model when finished but only with these extras. It is nearly the same with the Mirage: Only the ancient Revell Kit was available with lots of things to correct or add. I already had the Paul Fisher cockpit (it is really a mess that he lost his shop) and then Italeri came across. So no other option. And again the same thing: scratching and Brass/Resin necessary. But since I wanted to build one for the SIG for Telford this year I had no choice. Seems that they have learned their lessons now since the Tornado nearly has no flaws and is a straight build. We will see... BTW: I was also really disappointed with the quality of the HK Lancaster Dambuster. So many missing things and things to correct for such a price (I paid 350€!!) is a mess. Ask our Lanc-Expert Ian who has written a very long list what has to be corrected... Result: I only buy Italeri when no other option is available.- 719 replies

Thank you Gaz! Me too and I have another one in my stash. The 2 104‘s I built were also typical Italeri... But you are right: we are modelers and love challenges to cope with (like you do awesome with your 190 and Sturmgeschütz).- 719 replies

Great progress Phil and the idea of putting the engine outside for maintenance will lead to a stunning diorama. Very good idea! -

Thanks Peter and you are totally right. This is what I always do. A friend of mine already build the new Tornado and it seems that Italeri improved much. No problems during assembly or with the parts. This will be my next project build as 617 Sqn special livery to place it next to my Lancaster.- 719 replies

The more you post the more stunning your build gets. The way you build and detail your Catalina is simply amazing! -
Just saw this and I‘m speechless! Simply stunning what you are presenting here. I‘ve build a Tyrell 6-wheeler when I was young and still have it. Those Tamiya Kits are so nice... But the mfh-kits are far ahead. They’re awesome. Looking forward to seeing your progress!

Israeli Mirage III C with Atar9C
Kaireckstadt replied to Kaireckstadt's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Yesterday I assembled the complete pit and a typical Italeri topic arose: The pit sideconsole on the right side is too broad. Will never fit in the fuselage like that. Had to be grinded and sanded and test-fitting into the fuselage-half showed that it would fit now. But that’s typical for Italeri: Test-fit, Test-fit and once again Test-fit! The next problem which had to be solved was a prominent seam-line on top of both fuselage sides which seems to be caused by the design of the tool. This has to be grinded and sanded very carefully not to destroy the details close to it. The fotos I enclosed show the reworked area with rescribing and riveting still missing. This will be the next step and I will also describe the next 2 problems you have to solve.- 719 replies

Very good description of your progress and the flaws of the kit, Peter. Like Martin I also thought it was the Tamiya kit on your desk. Awesome looking what you have build so far! Nice weathering and wooden cockpit floor. Keep em coming! Cheers Kai -
This really looks amazing! Beautful Job so far!

In my opinion the shades you created are spot on. They are visible, subtle and blend in excellent into the basic yellow. From my side I would keep it as it is. Well done Gaz! -
Great addition to the wheelwell Harv! You can really call it done now!

Israeli Mirage III C with Atar9C
Kaireckstadt replied to Kaireckstadt's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Thanks for your feedback Hubert! You are right: the cockpit is very tiny and there is not much space for the pilot. Not to compare with e.g. a Tornado Cockpit.- 719 replies
