  1. Gaz Very nice work and one more then I have. I know I must have missed it but what scale is she in?
  2. Carl and Ernie Have you ever noticed in most kit reviews, the discussion on decals never seems to focus on accuracy but rather registration. Seems the reviewers might need to spend time on accuracy a bit more. Just feel at this stage of the build, leaving the decals alone and moving on is the best course of action. Only real answer would been definitive photographs of the actual aircraft, top and bottom and most likely, they do not exist, so what's correct - I haven't a clue.
  3. Thanks so much Chris. There have been a few moments when things took a turn and headed south but, in the end, just taking my time and working out a plan seemed to be the way to go. Painting has always been my favorite part of any build and when you have the opportunity to work with such a colorful pallet, the finished build just 'pops' in photographs.
  4. Oliver There have been parts of your build I couldn't find the words to describe your work and this is another one - simply brilliant execution and the bar has been raised to a new level.
  5. Ernie and Carl I almost never go back and visit a finished build but the issue of the Chinese roundels was an issue I did discuss on my build. My entire discussion was based on the fact the color decal/paint scheme sheets included with the kit showed the upper wing roundel as the larger and in a faded blue color and the underside decal, should be the smaller roundel and a dark blue. The decal sheet is just reversed of the colored decal paint scheme sheets. I never based my comments on which was right or wrong, only they didn't match. GWH either didn't do their homework or QC was asleep at the switch. I chose to leave mine as is as this seemed to be a matter of discussion where there isn't a definitive answer and not worth messing around with the finish.
  6. Thanks Mike, much appreciated. The old gal had a lot of fight left in her but in the end a terrific build that was so very satisfying to do.
  7. Thanks John Very much appreciated. As it turned out, the Kingfisher offered a few more surprises then I had figured on but in the end was enjoyable project in the end. Just goes to show how far the hobby has come.
  8. John Going to be an epic build of a P-51 variant we don't often see. Looking forward to following your progress. The vector cockpit set looks excellent.
  9. Ernie Nope, color interpretation is personal and unless we have the actual color chips, which there aren't any, who is actually able to say which is right and which isn't.
  10. Sasha Some mighty nice black paint work and right with Hubert, as the modulation works perfectly.
  11. Rob WOW, the deck cranes look just brilliant and, in your hands, the Eduard PE looks wonderful.
  12. Carl Nothing more important then taking care of your health, Sue's and the boys. We seem to live in an age where we all have so many medical issues, it's hard keeping up and ahead.
  13. Hubert Most appreciated and yes, the Kingfisher has to be one of Monogram's iconic kits from that era. It's easy to see the kit was designed by engineers who either were modelers or understood what modelers wanted.
  14. A grand trip back to 1967 building the Monogram Kingfisher. A fun build and the kit has held up well these past 56 years - a tribute to Monogram. Yellow Wing Decals with Tamiya Lacquer, Mr Color and MRP paints being used. Masking the canopy Greenhouse frames was a daunting job but, in the end, no issues.
  15. ACROSS THE FINISH LINE VOUGHT OS2U-1 KINGFISHER MONOGRAM 1/48 SCALE 1967 USS ARIZONA 1939-1940 It’s been quite a journey traveling back to 1967, a lot more work then I expected and a few hurdles to over come but the Kingfisher is done and in the books. I still have a few small parts and bits to add but for now, I’m calling her finished and on her way to the display case. Of interest of the era was the prop tips, painted with Blue, Yellow and Red stripes. For such a tiny item, a few hours of work masking but happy how they came out. The outrigger floats from the second kit were well worth the extra expense and with paying extra attention to the delicate float bracing, went on just fine. What appear to be red lights on the wing tips actually are gas filler caps, as I deferred to Dana Bell and was amazed at what they were. There isn’t any navigation with the kit and to be honest, I never thought about adding them until now – way too late. The P&W radial was wired up with PE and looks pretty good. All in all, I’m very happy with how the Kingfisher turned out. I took my time working though the stress cracking and all is fine. Next up; the Revell 1/32 Spitfire Mk IIa. Final images and first in the Lets Get Wet Ready For Inspection Forum
  16. Ernie Yup, way too much brain exercise for an early Sunday morning. The more pics the better. One thing the last few images do show is the kits, the Chinese roundels are too small.
  17. Hi Ernie Yup, the hues and tones of the colors are all over the place and it seems the more we dig into the entire issue, the more confusing the mess gets. I seem to remember that on my search list there was a certain amount of input from Dana Bell based on his research but at this stage who knows any more. I'm really starting to think the variation in color is how quickly the paint reacted to and faded from the environment. Photos do show that the P-40's colors over time looked more even in contrast but that also could be from the film of the day as color film just wasn't very accurate and the colors faded and changed so quickly especially one exposed to light. B&W prints, even worse for color interpretation. Your P-40 looks so good, I consider your detective work on the colors to be "Rather Good" as Sherlock Holmes would have said to Dr. Watson. In my IPMS competition days, this is the major reason color interpretation was never allowed to be entered into the judge's decision.
  18. Gaz Nice progress for sure, dealing with the smaller parts and assemblies. Fascinated as well as to how the torpedoes were moved once on board, as there just isn't any hints of how the crew could lift and move such heavy armament at sea. Just also seems so careless on Airfix's part to pack the barrel of the 20mm AA gun, so it was bent to the point of needing to be replaced. Looking forward to the beginnings o the oil weathering as the next step. I am still a bit confused as to what the actual purpose of the Kaiser's linoleum is, since it seems to be a material that would be slippery when wet and wear down with a lot of walking on it. Nice clean masking on the '10' - looks good.
  19. Bill Looking might good and enjoy the sunshine in Florida for a wonderful month's long vacation.
  20. Phil Some very nice detail work as they accumulatively add to the overall fell of the model and give the eye new places to search and enjoy.
  21. Rob Good point, I didn't look at it that way.
  22. Ernie It's 1:30 in the morning - us old guys should be grabbing a few hours of sleep. Decal work look excellent. I'm not sure but the upper wing Chinese roundels still looks a bit small to me.
  23. Kev My condolences on the passing of your son's Godmother. You have had quite a week for sure and glad it's now behind you. The mines look fantastic, and you are surely in the home stretch. For your next build, that's a unique choice - I don't think I've ever seen one built before - going to be interesting.
