I feel the need... for Shake and Bake... Tamiya StuG
GazzaS replied to GazzaS's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
I have done Zimmerit on a couple Tigers and a Brummbar. But they use a different pattern than the Stug or Panther... I may have to break down and get ATAK for those kinds of models. -
At a loss for words!

Thanks mate! I'll be curious to see your Takom kit. Does it have Zimmerit? -

Thank you, Rob! I'm modelling and early StuG. Not a specific machine mind you. But more a conglomeration of pre-zimmerit machines... without Schurzen. I have some great photos to work with, but usually only one shot of any given machine. Like this one: -

Fokker E.V / D.VIII Parasol Mikro Mir 1/32

Stunning looking kit, Rob! However, I must disagree. Adding the wings will present her in her full glory, ready to take it to the enemy. Besides, all of that work you did on the struts would be wasted. Do you have a figure and base in mind to go with it? -

PE fenders are better because you can put some great, realistic metal bends in them. I'll look forward to seeing your results. -
Scent aside... I think I've found my new favorite glue. Seems to grip faster than Tamiya Extra thin, and hold stronger.

Hello, friends! I've taken a diversion from two rather intense builds for something easier. However... there is something I've always wanted to do... build an AFV with some fenders ripped off. So, I even took a diversion from shake and bake to do this: Along the side of the StuG are two pieces of angle-iron bolted to the hull and bolted together. So, with no fender, I had to create some detail. Fortunately I have a sheet of Meng boltheads and nuts. It's funny... once you start doing research.... when you realize just how much detail is left-off by model companies. Where the brackets holding the fender are ripped off, I'll install some sheared bolts and surround the area previously hidden by the bracket with a facsimile of red-oxide primer. For tracks I have some Friul winterketten. So... since I can't seem to find photos of them being used during fair weather, I'll have to do some winter camo, too.

well.... it's holding on all of these Meng bolt heads nicely: It has a nice, very fine tipped long bristle brush, too. I read somewhere else, someone said it smelled like TET. Never used TeT... but I remember the smell from my childhood... I just can't remember where.

Took a gamble on some MIG extra thin as BNA was out of Tamiya extra thin. Quite smelly. will see how it works. Got some CA and another set of tweezers, too... heady stuff! Oh... and some decals.

Excellent! Love the paint modulation and your mottle.

Thank you, Jeff. I never made much effort to get a pilot list of the Jasta. But even if I did, there's nothing to tie the plane to other than the city colors and conjecture. I really would have loved to have had a name.

I'm glad you were able to save the decals, Rob. For me... I will never, ever mask over decals. If you want to lift a bad decal, it will fight tenaciously to remain in place. But if you take all possible masking precautions, they will jump off the model as if it were about to explode. -
Well, for me it's this one: I researched it from one B&W photo with no helpful caption. I spent many hours poring over German civic heraldry to get the colors for the fuselage band. I also got a lucky bit of help from a published author of WWI aircraft related books on the Jasta tail which helped me confine my heraldic researched to the German state of Saxony. It cost me two WNW Fokkers to make this kit, as I ruined the first. And I'll never know how close my research took me to the real colors. But the result was worth it.
