JohnB Posted October 17, 2018 Posted October 17, 2018 I plan to model the P-47D flown by Gabreski and Gladych, 56th FG using decals and info supplied in the AJ Press book 56th Fighter Group Pt.1. as my next build. 7
Martinnfb Posted October 17, 2018 Posted October 17, 2018 Great choice John, however I have never seen a photograph of Pengie 2. Mysterious plane for sure Cheers Martin 2
aderowlands Posted October 18, 2018 Posted October 18, 2018 I remember asking Yahu a while back if they were doing a panel for the Trumpeter kit and they said yes and it would appear its about to be released though not showing on Hannants yet. One of the things I will aim to get when it comes time to tackle my Trumpeter Razorback. 3
Bomber_County Posted October 18, 2018 Posted October 18, 2018 Great choice John, love the Jug, another masterclass in the making........ 1

JohnB Posted October 19, 2018 Author Posted October 19, 2018 Hold the phone guys! I've changed my mind. The P-47 goes back on the shelf for now. HobbyCraft P-51A is calling my name! Now that I've finished the P-51A I can get started on this kit. Still planning to do Pengie II.
1to1scale Posted October 19, 2018 Posted October 19, 2018 Good choice, I was always going to build mine as HV-B, “In the mood”.
1to1scale Posted October 19, 2018 Posted October 19, 2018 Lol, you will spend a lot more time building that P-51A than the trumpeter P-47 with five times more parts! I still have an A in the stash, but I remember the many hours of filling and sanding that kit! Although it did turn out nice! 6
Administrators Clunkmeister Posted October 19, 2018 Administrators Posted October 19, 2018 But the P-51A is so, so SO cool! 4
Administrators Clunkmeister Posted October 19, 2018 Administrators Posted October 19, 2018 One of the few models you can legitimately weather to within an inch of it’s life. They were flown until they literally fell apart. 4
Peterpools Posted October 19, 2018 Posted October 19, 2018 John P-51A - Ready and waiting for the epic journey to begin My Corsair is on the UPS truck and out for delivery today Peter 4
JohnB Posted October 19, 2018 Author Posted October 19, 2018 I've built the A-36 and a "A" previously so I don't think there will be any surprises. I'll be using the VERY nice resin cockpit from Vector which really makes a big difference in the model. My eye is on the one on the cover of Dana's new book on USAAF colors. Very weathered! All geared up and ready for the Corsair Peter! I look forward to watching your build. 3
Bomber_County Posted October 19, 2018 Posted October 19, 2018 51A here a 47 there, whatever you build will be joy to watch the progress.........never built a 51A or B ........plenty of D’s.... 4
BlrwestSiR Posted October 20, 2018 Posted October 20, 2018 Ok, stopped by to see you work your magic on a P-47 but the P-51A should be just as interesting. Carl 2

There’s plenty of pics of RAF and AAF A’s on the flight line so beat up they look like parts should be falling off them. I know there was more than a few of them that just crapped out and fell apart. 1
JohnB Posted November 13, 2018 Author Posted November 13, 2018 Since there are a number of posts on this thread about the P-51A I think I will start a whole new thread for this build.
GazzaS Posted November 14, 2018 Posted November 14, 2018 Well... I was having Jug fever for a minute there. Will cheer you on nonetheless. Gaz

Wingco57 Posted November 15, 2018 Posted November 15, 2018 I have one partly built so will stalk yours closely. 1
k5ikl Posted November 15, 2018 Posted November 15, 2018 What timing John. I have the Trumpeter P-47N out of the closet and hope to get started on soon, I hope. Cheers, Jerry 1

Cheers, Jerry The only real "gripe" I have so far is the somewhat over-done rivet detail. Otherwise not a bad looking kit.
