Done - F-4EJ Kai Phantom - The Last of it's Kind ZM 1/48
Peterpools replied to DocRob's topic in LSM 1/48 Work in Progress
Rob Some mighty nice progress on your ZM Phantom. Phantoms and Tomcats just happen to be one of those model aircraft that do not need any nose weights as the main gear is so far aft. ZM does that a very different approach to the front office as compared to Tamiya but both have raise the bar to a very high level and each use the "spine plug" eliminating the nasty top fuselage seem. John Nice progress on the Wildcat ... fuselage looks mighty good. Of course the wings are another thing and I always shutter thinking how a kit with folding or extended wings, the wings will mess together. Fingers crossed.🤞 Keep 'em comin Peter

Done - F-4EJ Kai Phantom - The Last of it's Kind ZM 1/48

Rob Bravo .. awesome start on the Big Guy. Terrific work and detail painting on the office - looks so good. I have my ZM F4J sitting right next to the bench as there are (were) a few more builds to be done before I was going to pick her up again and finish. Some how I have the feeling done in my bones, as I intently follow your build, my ZM Toom will be rolling out on the bench pretty much after the Tomcat is done.. Keep 'em comin Peter- 177 replies

Phil Seems as quite a few AM companies are now making 3D decals and cockpit sets. I used the Kit world sets for seatbelts - worked well and have the an Eduard Look set for the Mustang but haven't used it yet. I don't think Quinta makes a set for the Tamiya Mossie in either 32nd or 48th scales. Keep 'em comin Peter

Rob The front office is looking mighty good. When I built my Tamiya 1/48 Phantom a few months ago, the views and posts picked up to a high fever and the time I looked, it was over 8k views! I'm really starting to believe their is a solid interest in 48th scale here on the forum. I'm absolutely in the camp and ready to take a seat to follow your build. I still have my ZM F4J to finish up this winter as well and I'm feeling it in my bones, following your build will get it back on the bench sooner then I'm planning Peter

Gus Less then ten to fifteen minutes depending on traffic! The island has certainly changed the past 25 years and IMO not for the better - way too much traffic and congestion but that's progress. Peter

Thanks Phi, much appreciated Agreed that the Quinta sets are a bit pricey but so well worth the money and it's impossible for me to ever come close to achieving the level of detail they offer. For most kits, the only AM I might normally would buy: interior PE detail set, decals, ejection seats with seatbelts and harnesses and maybe exhaust. Since I started using the the Quinta sets, I rarely buy anything else other then decals (maybe) and maybe exhausts. For props, just the Quinta set. See how well the Red Fox detail set looks on Kai's Tornado, their is another 3D printed option. I'm betting it's only a matter of time before kit manufacturers start including them in their kits, just as PE has found their way into almost all kits these days - has to start somewhere. Thanks Rob, Tamiya kits are amazing and rarely have any issues at all. I've now used the Quinta Sets on three kits and they are the future here now, as they offer realism that we could never achieve before with PE. When you build your -D, it's all about enjoyment and relaxation. I've already gone back and removed a lot of the dry brushing as I thought it was too much under the macro lens and just wanted it to help highlight the details with minimal wear and tear.
