Kaireckstadt Posted August 4, 2021 Author Posted August 4, 2021 The insignia decals are on. As usual I tested the reaction of the decals to my setting solution (Mr. Mark Softer) with a decal on my DC3-fuselage: Everything was ok! It was a good decision to mask the places where the insignia are placed over the yellow/ black triangles. On the left fuselage side the green demarcation line shone through the white of the decal. There was no other option than placing another decal over the first one. This was possible because there were some extra decals on the Isradecal sheet and because they are very thin. I also added the Parachute housing (lots of rework to be done because the diameter of the white part was much too big) and already build and painted the ladder for the pilot which still needs weathering: The external tanks were also weathered with AK Extreme Metal Steel over Alclad II White Aluminum and blended in: That’s all for tonight. Tomorrow I will go on with the other decals. 9
Peterpools Posted August 5, 2021 Posted August 5, 2021 Kai Holy smokes - decal work looks fantastic - they fit like a glove. Keep 'em comin Peter 1
GazzaS Posted August 5, 2021 Posted August 5, 2021 Your decal work looks excellent, Kai! No flaws visible. Stunning! 1
Kaireckstadt Posted August 5, 2021 Author Posted August 5, 2021 Thank you all for your feedback! I was also thinking about the blue of the Israeli Stars. At first glance I thought it was too dark. But I found fotos in my literature that showed the blue really was that dark on many (but not all) Mirages: So I decided to use the Isredecals. Hope that Ra‘anan Weiss researched correctly. This is how they look in natural sunlight: What do you think? 7
Peterpools Posted August 5, 2021 Posted August 5, 2021 Kai As we talked earlier, the blue Star of David does seem a bit dark. I've been doing some research and have found the blue does appear darker in some photographs as compared to others but can not determine what the actual FS number of the blue is. For my money, the blue looks good, fills the bill and should be left as is. Keep 'em comin Peter 4
GusMac Posted August 5, 2021 Posted August 5, 2021 Hi Kai, looking great. I had similar doubts about the blue when I built the Tamiya F15C but in the end decided darker was better as the IDF do keep their airframes pretty tidy, so fading too much was unlikely. 3

Kaireckstadt Posted August 5, 2021 Author Posted August 5, 2021 Thanks for your replies! So I keep to my decision and leave it as it is (and it even would be a huge rework to change it…). 3
GazzaS Posted August 5, 2021 Posted August 5, 2021 I think the blue is in keeping with the pics, Kai. Or course... if you were feeling bold, you could modulate it with some oils later. Besides... once you hit it with a matte coat, things will change. Keep up the excellent work! 2
Kaireckstadt Posted August 6, 2021 Author Posted August 6, 2021 Thanks for the feedback and your tipp Gary! 3
Kaireckstadt Posted August 6, 2021 Author Posted August 6, 2021 Thanks for your feedback Mark! Much appreciated. 2
Kaireckstadt Posted August 6, 2021 Author Posted August 6, 2021 All decals on the fuselage and the upper side of the model are applied now: And some closer pictures: 12 kill markings… Tomorrow I will apply the decals for the bottom side, the tanks and the pylons. The end is clearly in sight now Hubert 😉! 7

GazzaS Posted August 7, 2021 Posted August 7, 2021 Looks great,Kai. Very nicely done. I hate doing red lines myself. They seem to be straight until after they are dried. 3
Peterpools Posted August 7, 2021 Posted August 7, 2021 Kai Just the way I like them Keep ‘em comin Peter 2
DocRob Posted August 7, 2021 Posted August 7, 2021 Wow, the Mirage is looking great Kai. Are you planning a panel wash? I could imagine, a heavy black wash could give a bit too much contrast. Cheers Rob 3

The red lines were not that difficult to apply. I don’t use a paper handkerchief to fix them to the model but a cotton swab with which I roll carefully over the surface of the decal. This avoids unwanted movement of it. 14 hours ago, GazzaS said: Looks great,Kai. Very nicely done. I hate doing red lines myself. They seem to be straight until after they are dried. Actually I just plan to accentuate the panel lines covered by decals with a pencil after the flat coat. All others will not receive any panelliner. Thats the plan so far. What do you think? 4
