Bad news, I threw the tailplane assembly on and she's still a tail sitter. Some quick messing about and it looks like I need about 60g more nose weight. No idea how I'll get that in at this point. Might just have to put a barrel under the fuselage... Carl, maybe you can solve the problem by adding a small strong magnet in the front wheel and another one in the ground plate for the finished model. This may solve your problem. Peterpools
Carl In the instructions, is there a callout for the amount of weight needed in the nose at all and where HB suggests placing it? I remember at the start of the build, the amount of time you invested in working out the weight and balance issue and I thought you had it nailed. Nothing like a taildragger that completely eliminates this monumental issue. 2

It would require a base of some sort which I'm not sure I'll use due to space constraints. 10 hours ago, Peterpools said: Carl In the instructions, is there a callout for the amount of weight needed in the nose at all and where HB suggests placing it? If I recall, I added about 350g but then had to remove some to try and get the fuselage closed. That may have been my downfall. 5 hours ago, harv said: Thats a good idea !....harv It's definitely one I'll have to keep in mind for other builds down the road. Much easier too than trying to cram all the weight in.
BlrwestSiR
Ok, I found an easy fix and apparently one which some ground crews used. A barrel under the rear fuselage. She sits level now. 5
Martinnfb
Just an idea, probably too late, but. Would there be a chance to place some ballast into the engine housings directly behind the firewalls?

The firewall is recessed and I'd have to pry it out carefully. I'm going to see if I can when I'm back at the bench.
BlrwestSiR
It got grusome but I was able to remove one engine from its nacelle. I glued in 30¢ which worked out to 75g. The other side was less cooperative and I ended up ripping the entire nacelle off instead of the engine. Whoops. Thankfully the exterior will just need a bit of touch paint. I glued in another 30¢ there and... 9

BlrwestSiR
I popped the bomb bay doors off the fuselage. I had used the closed ones as a mask. Unfortunately I still ended up with some overspray on the bombs and supports. I got a couple of the worst offenders off the racks and masked them and did some touch ups. Then I painted the opened bomb bay doors and once dry I'll put everything together. 5

FME erk
Carl I just read through the whole of the build so far . . . What a size she is and after a number of issues you have turned this into a beauty . . . Feel inspired to get back onto my Lancaster as its been a while . . . I look forward to seeing the completed aircraft, cracking artwork as well Ian 3
Peterpools
Carl Sems there is always something to deal with and glad there wasn't much overspray in the bomb bay to backtrack and correct. The corrected weathering on the 'offenders' looks spot on the money and nice to see you're now moving forward. 1

Hope to see you start on your Lanc and I need to get back to mine as well. 2 hours ago, Peterpools said: Carl Sems there is always something to deal with and glad there wasn't much overspray in the bomb bay to backtrack and correct. Just the couple bombs and the ends of the racks. So a quick fix. Here's the repainted bombs back in place. I then fitted the open bay doors. Lastly, I glued the tail assembly in place. This thing is getting bigger and heavier...
BlrwestSiR
Time to call this one done. The turrets are on, as are the props. I added a couple antennae to fuselage and that should be it. Oh yeah, decals too. All 8 of them. I'm going to have to find a place to put this beast but for now, she's going to live on the unused part of my bench. Now onto another pre-started build. 6

Peterpools
Carl Looking mighty good and good thing you aren't paying for hanger space. Are we looking at a Starfighter build getting ready to roll? Will be following with great interest and will be front and center. 2

BlrwestSiR
Thanks everyone. I'm glad to finally get one of these four engine heavies finished. Yup, I've dug out my CF-104D build and hope to get this finished. 17 hours ago, Bomber_County said: Carl, congrats on a stunning build, what a behemoth, I feel a new display case being ordered……. A new display case is indeed in the cards. I just need to make sure I make it big enough to hold the model. 2
