a Panther is a definite on the list now……I see Das Werk have a couple……..haven’t built Das Werk have you?

If you don't want to do the interior then the Meng Panther kits have a good reputation

Very nice, I like the slightly irregular look of the Zimmerit. It looks handmade, which it actually was, if I remember it right.

Cheers Du alter Klebstoffschnüffler :D

Gaz, just catching up, stunning build as usual, those  comments on farcebook are the one reason I’ll never go on there……..a Panther is a definite on the list now……I see Das Werk have a couple……..haven’t built Das Werk have you?

Honestly, Phil...   I prefer that some people are honest about things like that.  Because I was just going to leave them.  It's nice to get likes. wows, and hearts and lovely comments.   But I feel better now that I did change it.

I usually won't say anything negative unless they ask for opinions.  Then I try to be very tactful about it and avoid comedy.  Comedy just doesn't translate in text.

Welcome back brothers and sisters!

If you ever get to Memphis, Tennessee, you have to stop at Gridley's for some of the best ribs you've ever had in your life.

Now, back to modelling.

Have you ever looked at a pictures of a tank or some other camouflaged piece of gear and just wondered what kind of camo you're looking at?  Poor lighting, over exposure...   and the tank looks like it just has a few ambiguous shadows here and there.  It's really frustrating.

So, in this case I'm not really trying to depict a certain Panther.  I've looked at a lot of pics, and not seen one that would fit my plans and supplies me with a complete camo scheme.  So, I've free-handed my own.

Gary, the camo looks good to me. The squiggles are nice and tight, very much in scale.

Hello Friends,

Despite having the day off work, I got little modelling done.  First I had to deal with puppy.  He's really killing my morning routine with his need to play.  Then I did some sanding, and zimmerit gouging followed by touch-up painting with the airbrush later this morning.  Then it was off to find a birthday present for the wife.  Then, once home from that I got onto the Silhouette software and created numeral masks for the side of the turret.

I made the masks for the main reason was that I didn't want to have to deal with the decals on the rough zimmerit surface.  But, I found that my masks barely contacted enough of the zimmerit surfaces to actually hold on.

I made masks for the crosses, but the area around them was so small that I couldn't get the mask to adhere.  so, I had to use the decals.  But...  they're 2o years old, and fell apart.  So, I stole some from a late model Panther that has two sets of crosses...   but they were only 15 years old.  But they worked.

So here is the current condition of the model:

Gaz, looks great, camo spot on, any weathering?…….what was your base colour?

Thank you, Phil.  The base color was a bit of a mix job on my part from SMS Paints.  Dunkelgelb mixed with panzer grey, white, and a bit of khaki grey.   I wanted a faded color and nothing too bright.  The weathering is still to come.  It's kind of one of those things you want the whole day to mess with.

Looking good Gaz. I've always liked the looks of the Panther. Your build really makes it a good looking tank. Nice work! :)

Thank you, John.

Looks good there Gary.

Decals over zimmerit is never easy. Yours look to have confirmed themselves nicely.

As for the puppy, Jimmy usually is up around 630 for his first morning walk. Ugh.

Carl

Thank you, Carl.  Poor Kaiser...   he has to wake up at 3am when I let him out before I go to work.  He's not ready for walking, yet.  Still needs two more vaccinations,

Looks great Gary! Good decision to spray the numbers over the rough Zimmerit!
I curious how the tank will look like with weathering applied.

Thank you, Kai.   I'm curious, too.

Welcome back, friends.

Those of you who have read and taken part in my thread about the horror of work-related dreams know that I haven't been modelling in over a week.  Today I was back at it with a filter to highlight the Zimmerit pattern and a pinwash to highlight mechanical details.

The distance photos....    the ones that show the entire vehicle  ....  appear very yellow.  The close up photos show the Panther in colors much like I see with my eyes in regular lighting.

The macro photos showed a couple places where I had failed to remove the excess paint...  on the headlight and muzzle brake.

Happy modelling!

The filter tied everything together to my eye, Gaz. I have to  admit, that I didn't like the squiggles that much initially. Now, the camo looks great and convincing. The filter seemed to have the effect of enrichen the colors and knocking back the contrasts a bit, an effect, I always liked, using filters on camo schemes.

Cheers Rob

Thank you, Rob!  One of my goals in this build is to make a more ambiguous and faded camouflage scheme.  It's still early days with lots to do.
