I’ll throw my hat into the group build with the Italeri 1/35 Elco 80' Torpedo Boat PT-596. The brief history is as follows :-

The 80' Elco Patrol Torpedo boat was the last of the wartime PT boat development. Hundreds were built by Elco and other companies from 1942-'45, with most of them sent to the Pacific theater. PT-596 was one of the last built, entering service in May 1945. She was attached to Squadron 40 in the Philippines but arrived too late to see action.

This was an eBay purchase complete with the crew figures. Included are turned barrels for the 40mm Bofor’s and the 37mm M4. I’ve added Master 50 cal barrels as well. With my track record of figures it’s going to be interesting. Here some box shots etc, stay tuned.

Phil this will be epic and I will follow your build closely. I was too cowardly to even consider my LS Vosper boat for the GB.
Interesting to see, that they have different type of guns with very similar calibers (37 and 40 mm). There must have been a reason, otherwise it would be illogical to carry different types of ammunition.

Cheers Rob

Thanks Rob, I did have a look at the Griffon set for the Vosper, yep that’s a whole lot of PE. If this turns out well I may well look at the Vosper. Unfortunately Griffon do nothing for the PT’s.
Apparently so the story goes, they were looking at more firepower on the bow and found an P39 Aircobra 37mm lying used and fitted it. It was so successful they included it in the standard spec. The 40mm was always a multifunctional weapon for air and sea…..

Thanks Mark, I’ve been looking at this since it came out in 05/06 but always passed it by until eBay listing came up. I always wanted a MTB or PT since seeing, I think it was Tamiya kit of it when I was a kid………

Phil, can't wait to see you start this.

I'm trying to finish my Millennium Falcon first and then figure out if in brave enough to tackle the Vosper like I said I would.

Cool!  I’ve been thinking about buying one of these and converting it to RC to play around in the cove behind my house.

Scott, the hull is all one piece so doing a RC would be easy. There are a couple of YouTube videos of some guys who have done exactly that.
