Administrators Clunkmeister Posted January 22, 2023 Administrators Share Posted January 22, 2023 I’m calling this finished, or at least close to it, but once I finish the PE flaps, I will mount them. As the weeks go by, I’ll finish the brake lines, soften a couple hard edges, DUST IT OFF! Install a radio antenna, etc. VB-83 was deployed on CV-9 USS Essex and starting in March 1945, was fully engaged in the attacks on the Marianas Islands VB-83 and their SB2C-4 Helldivers also played a very large part in the attack and sinking of IJN Yamato. 19
Peterpools
Ernie Congrats on a fantastic build. You've surely tamed the beast and she now is ready for the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Awesome work and yes, you have shown with hard work and the necessary skills a gem is waiting to be built.🏆 ,
ScottsGT
WOW! Looks completely different off the bench. Well done, Sir! Hope mine comes out half as good. That’s something to be proud of right there.
Administrators Clunkmeister Posted January 22, 2023 Author Administrators Share Posted January 22, 2023 Thanks, it was very dark where I snapped those last two pics, but once it clears up outside, we’ll see about pics in the sunlight. I apparently need to take the sheen off the prop and spinner (oops), but we’ll do that today. And a hard cami line on the rear fuselage I absolutely missed. Easy and quick fixes, but still more to do. It certainly looks a bit flat and dead in the dark. Tonight after I find time, I’ll get some good pics posted

Martinnfb
Fantastic result, I guess you will be adding some kind of antenna wire thingy ? :), this plane is so ugly ( not the model) that is actually quite cool. Epic build Ernie. Bravo! 4

Administrators Clunkmeister Posted January 22, 2023 Author Administrators Share Posted January 22, 2023 Yes Martin I shall. Plus fixing the hard line between the white and blue on the rear. and dull the prop and spinner. I just need a break. LOL

Martinnfb
Now I want to build Helldiver With all of the touch ups in place, this is going to be one serious contender for the Nationals this year. Can't wait

Some brake lines just got added, and aa bit of grease/grunge on the wheels. Trying to find aa good diagram of the wireless antenna. This isn’t exactly a 109 that has been studied to death… 3

Martinnfb
Some components of the antenna wire installation, ( post/ insulator/ tensioner/ drop down to insulated post on the fuselage and back to the tail via, tensioner and insulator ) can be seeing here. NOTE: Hi-res pictures require a triple click in order to see them in full resolution. 4
DocRob
The dust off really payed, Ernie. Congratulations to your epic Helldiver. Love the result and there is a lot of detail to catch the eye. That's what I like about these huge two / three seaters in navy livery. It's made for a purpose and you can't oversee it, as your model shows exactly these qualities. Cheers Rob
Administrators Clunkmeister Posted January 23, 2023 Author Administrators Share Posted January 23, 2023 Martin, I found out this: if you look on the pictures, you’ll see a white insulated poking through the left fuselage side below the greenhouse, beside the radio stack. That’s the antenna lead to the overhead dipole antenna. The lead comes down from the strung antenna and goes through the insulator into the radios. It took seeing it on a model build to finally get it.

JohnB
I remember you told me you were looking at re-doing the dive flaps. Here's a photo that might help. Maybe maybe not! LOL Click on it for better resolution.

Martinnfb
one more thing, if I'm not mistaken the inner slats were painted with exterior colour to match the exterior while stoved on deck. prove me wrong. 4

Right you are, my friend! And that, Sports Fans, is why we shouldn’t rely on restorations and/or previous model builds for reference. 😡 The good news being I only lightly attach easily knocked off parts with a drop of CA, so off they come. 😂 It’s GOOD to be the Lord of the Manor.
