belugawhaleman Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 Another product from ABER came today; this time their #35 L-40 Russian 152.4 mm ML-20S Barrel for ISU-152. Although meant for the Italeri & Zvezda kits, I'm going to use it on my Tamiya JSU-152 kit. I read a review on the Perth Military Modelling site that it can be used on the Tamiya kit by gluing three .5mm (.020) strips of styrene on the stub-end of the barrel to shim so that it fits the Tamiya part. I'm glad to hear this as the ABER parts look great, especially the brass muzzle-brake. I bought some some styrene strips today. http://www.perthmilitarymodelling.com 7

belugawhaleman Posted July 15, 2022 Posted July 15, 2022 A couple items from Tamiya today: First, their German 3 ton 4x2 Cargo TruckTruck (35291), known to the rest of us as the "Opel Blitz". Seems like a nice little kit. Also bought some Tamiya putty basic type. Never used their putty before and wanted To give it a try. Not sure why it's labeled as " basic". Do they offer a more sophisticated or "complex" putty for advanced builders? Anyway, working on their M3 Stuart right now and it's a nice kit. I have some aftermarket that'll work for it I might use, but progress on it has been slow......will post some pics later. 6
BlrwestSiR Posted July 15, 2022 Posted July 15, 2022 Never fails to happen. I go to my LHS to pick up a couple paints. Turns out they're having an anniversary sale and all Tamiya stuff is 20% off. So, my rubber arms twists like Gumby and I pick up the new P-38 for $72 CAD or whatever that works out to in real money. I also got an aircraft carrier for Edward as he wants one but with jets on deck. I know nothing about the kit except that it was so hopefully it's decent enough to satisfy his interests. 7

The Steyr 1500a is more commonly found today in the form of Tamiya's 1/48 scale kits.........1/48 scale armor ....really? Let's not even discuss 1/72 or 1/76 scales! Well, technically this one is more soft-skin than armor. Anyway I liked the looks of this one......couldn't find it In stock at my usual places.......found it on line at a site in Texas. It's sold for about the same price as the 1/48 kits....strange that. My favorite is the commander version. Anyway the kit I bought is German S.gl. Pkw Steyr 1500A/01 (35225). It looks like a neat little kit. A simple build of an interesting little vehicle. 9

Hi Phil, never tried the Vallejo version but I've used the Ammo equivalent and it makes getting decent modulation very simple. Also a good trick to get you to buy paint in 6 bottles at a time! 3

That’s what I thought as well, the bottles are half size but it gives you opportunity to test these finishes before investing in full size…… 4

Move the dial 50 odd years forward and leisurely perusing eBay and this gem popped up. The Italeri 1/35 PT boat complete with crew and AM for the 50 calls. Basically it rounded out about £50.00 of RRP……..This will another different genre for me but looking forward to it…….and it’s big, the ELCO 80’ Torpedo Boat PT-596 measures out at 700mm in 1:35 scale. Weapons include 40mm Bofors, 37mm M9 gun, 20mm Oerlikon and twin .50cals all being in metal bar the 50 cals hence the extras. This is not JFK’s PT109 but later build. ….. and more figures to paint…… 11

They were in a translucent white plastic and one a couple inches long. I've got the 1/35 Vosper boat in the stash to build. Plus a bunch of crew for that too. 7
