Anthony in NZ
Great work on the lower wing and lower aux bays. All coming together very nicely now. Was there much size difference between the Revell Aux doors and the Tamiya ones? Yep, I plan on doing XV571 with the checkerboard fin (but not the spine-going to show it overpainted on my model in a slightly different shade) I have offered Derek all my spares from my WH Phantom, maybe if there is a scheme in there he dosent want I could send it to you. I have a feeling that decal set is still available from him?
Wingco57
Thanks Anthony, if that is possible I would be very pleased. I was surprised that the differences are slight between the two kits making crosskitting a pleasure. Small bit of progress, the Marconi ARI 18228 fairing was reinstalled on the Revell fin. Next, a mix between rescribing and building ip the cockpit.
Anthony in NZ
Will be a pleasure if I can help you in any way. Just love the fintip fairing on the Brit Toom, Gives quite a distinctive look. You are really capturing the shapes well. One of my favorite builds on line at the moment. Thanks for the inspiration!
harv
Another plus for the Revell kit is there is a brass nose wheel leg for it....harv
Wingco57
The fun of croskitting is that you can use whatever part you think is best, in my case I use the Tamiya parts. Modifying the Revell wheelbays is a necessary evil.

belugawhaleman
A very detailed and complex conversion process. Impressive!
Wingco57
Thanks, I call it “aanklooien”. Some work done painting the cockpit. The coloured knobs are artistic license and just for effect. Testfitting in the fuselage part already gives a nice effect. Cees

Wingco57
The cockpit has been phinished and could be phinally pfitted into the Tamiya fuselage. The screws phrovided by Tamiya are very useful for clean phitment. After that there was nothing from stopping me to phfit the Revell underwing. Very Phleased how things are progressing. Somehow phantom builds have a lot of ph-words in the text.
Anthony in NZ
Great update Cees, Phunny how that happens. Phorever one of life's mystery's LOL Really coming along now!
GusMac
Looking great Cees. As long as the 'ph' words aren't the 4 letter ones you should be good! I do like Tamiya's screw-in cockpits - as you say they give a nice clean fit and remove alignment issues.
DocRob
Looking phreakin' phantastic, never build a kit with a screw in it, except for noseweight. 12 hours ago, GusMac said: As long as the 'ph' words aren't the 4 letter ones you should be good! Gus you ph*cked up royally, by now it's a FIVE letter word, it's ophphicial . Cheers Rob 1

Administrators JeroenPeters Posted October 9, 2020 Administrators Share Posted October 9, 2020 lovely. Taking shape. I just don't get the screws. I mean... why? Only to make the kit look more multi-media?
Wingco57
Typical Tamiya, perhaps Leftovers from their r/c cars. Some testfitting of the burnercans position using a plastic ring of the correct diameter. I am very pleased about it. Also have been doing some testfitting of the upperwing parts and strangely the Tamiya parts fit better than the Revell parts. This is a true Phrankentom.
Wingco57
Port wing from Revell kit has been phitted against Tamiya phuselage (Ok, quit the boring wordplay Cees) Quite pleased how they compare to each other after some fettling. As soon as the glue has set they can be better brought together. I bent the trailing edge up a bit to get the visual effect of the deeper rear fuselage. It is quite effective but don’t tell anyone. Very pleased so far. Starboard wing to follow.
BlrwestSiR
Looks great Cees. Never would have thought of trying what you've done with the wings. Carl
Wingco57
Neither have I. The reason I didn’t use the Tamiya upperwing parts in the end is that there is a mismatch between both leading edges.
Anthony in NZ
Another great update Cees, are you going to close the gap up between the engines at the back? I am thinking no one will ever know.... I have been a little sidetracked this weekend I promise to get back to the phantom soon!
