1to1scale
No primer yet, still have a few little issues to fix, like there are a few spots where the panel lines were “oops’d” on to the next panel, and I guess they just left the molds unrepaired. I also have to figure out what to do with the canopy, it does not fit over the back of the fuselage, just on the cockpit. I may have to end up gluing it in place, or just leaving it removable. Not sure if I can modify it to be a little thinner. I also need to go back and figure out how to remove a seam line from the tail gear, as it glued in the fuselage now.
1to1scale
No primer yet, I spent a couple days running the riveter all over the model, with the exception of the upper wings, as I believe these were putty’d on these refurbished F6A. I have some concerns on the panel lines on the sides of the fuselage, but as I did research, I found that the British Mk.1a had different panel lines that the US early war versions, so I went with it. I also spent some time fixing the missing prop shaft (because I thought it was a sprue gate, I clipped it and sanded flat), I rebuilt it using plastic and brass, and drilling to get them tight. I next spent some time trying to find a proper mix for late Army Olive Drab, I’m still deciding on the three. At the time of D-day invasions, these aircraft were pretty fresh and clean, so chipping will be very minimal.

1to1scale
I think I decided on the middle green and the lighter neutral gray. I also did some testing on mixing an insignia white and lt gull gray. After a few tests, I came up with some colors I like. I really have to write these down some day.
BlrwestSiR
For the seam line, maybe try a small chisel like the one from Mission Models? I have some from Wave that are fairly thin in size. As for the canopy, Squadron I believe make a vac Malcolm hood for the Revell P-51B. Maybe you could use that instead of the kit one?
1to1scale
It’s been a slow progress week, just didn’t feel the energy to work on it until today. But I did get back on on it today, I spent the day working on checking the seams, then finish mounting the camera gear, fit and glued the clear parts, and did some work on the wing lights. That was a bit of a challenge because Hobbycraft didn’t include any, I ended up making something out of styrene rod and a Molotow pen. Ignore the gun ports, there is no detail because they will be covered with tape on the finished model.
1to1scale
It’s getting there, everything is getting masked, the big hang up is deciding which actual aircraft to paint, as this affects how I paint the invasion stripes.

Sure is a nice clean fit of the landing gear doors......
1to1scale
Progress has been slow, but I made an effort to get it masked up today, and I’m most of the way there.
1to1scale
Just out of the paint booth, I need to do a few touch ups, the tape took a little paint with it. Not the primers fault, since it was in a few small spots, I failed at degreasing and prepping. I do realize there are some errors, the letters are a bit too large, and possibly the wrong color. I found material that indicated it was white, some said gray, others yellow. After I unmasked, I found that there should have been more contract between the white of the insignia and the letters, so maybe yellow. I’m still undecided if I will change it. For now, I’m letting the paint dry. i used a mix of Tamiya pants for it. OD was XF62/XF61/XF49 equal parts, and neutral gray was Tamiya’s neutral gray, but with 25% white added. Used NATO Black and Stynilrez white primer for all white, it’s not as white as XF2, so a good substitute. Insignia blue was a 60%/40% mix of Dk Sea Blue and Royal Blue. 11
Ryan
Man that is looking great! You know my builds, I'd be happy with a light wash at this stage and onto the shelf! Looking forward to the finish.

1to1scale
Matte coat completed. I may be respirating the right wing from the stripes to the tip, I must have scratched the paint while i was spraying the clear, but now there is a very long and visible scratch immortalized under it. I was also not happy with the chipping on that wing, so probably back to the booth tomorrow.

1to1scale
My FIL is still in the hospital, but today may be a calmer day I can figure out what to do about the scratch on the wing, I have to see if I can spot repair, or if I will be repainting the wing. My goal is to have this finished by Monday, my next IPMS meeting. I also need to paint the prop and landing gear, but after weathering, it will be finished. That’s a major accomplishment for me because I have so many projects started, but this will be the first one completely finished this year. Then I can finish up the big helo, and then concentrate on finishing other stuff.

After examining this, the scratch is in the clear, this means I should be able to mask off the outer wing and spray a little more clear to fix it. I managed to gat a few minutes in yesterday to start work on the landing gear, sprayed primer and I’m hopefully going to get those done this weekend.
