The comprehensive instruction book containing 44 pages, I will photo each page as I build to point out amendments etc

 

Some of the after-market bits, my choice again to improve the overall appearance.

Sadly the aircrafts instrument panel is just a molded representation of the dials, there is no decal to place upon it

 

Just to give you an idea of the size of the fuselage, this is it on my shelf measuring a full 25 inches and excluding the bomb-aimers nose blister

 

Research over many years has resulted in the superb book

and the aircraft profile . . .

 

The aircraft was one of two lost from 100 Squadron based at RAF Station Grimsby in Lincolnshire during a sortie to Nuremburg 16/17th March 1945 making it the last aircraft lost flying from the airfield.

The crew comprised:

Pilot: F/O George Dauphinee RCAF

F/Eng: F/Sgt.Mervyn Jefery RAF

Nav: F/O Bruce Douglas RCAF - POW

B/A: F/O William Vale RCAF

W/Op: P/O Roy Bailey RAF - POW

Mid-gun: William Harvey RCAF

Rear gun: Lyle Bedell RCAF

 

I knew both Bruce and Roy, I have their stories of the night the aircraft fell to the guns of a night-fighter.

I formed the RAF Waltham Association and met with Roy Bailey who told me he and Bruce were the sole survivors from being shot down.

Bruce wrote to me with his memories  and added to the story of the events of that night.

I only have the photo of the ground crew in front of the aircraft and this will hopefully be in my  book which is currently at a publishers  . . .

That's very interesting, this would be my grandfather D.B Douglas. Attached is the War Service section of his resume. The other very interesting detail is Bruce has a son who is my father and his name is Ian. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your book.

My grandfather E.D King piloted this lanc III ND.644 on 18/19th April 1944 against the marshalling yards at Rouen with 100 sqdn RAF.

I have the service record. There are markings also contain CAN.J.23711.

What was his christian name Iain? I have written the history of 100 and its always nice to have a full name rather than Pilot Officer 'Kite' etc

I take it Can.J.23711 was his Service Number RCAF

Hi Ian

My Uncle was F/S Lyle Bedell who was the rear gunner on this mission.  My Grandmother, Aunt and Dad kept in touch with Roy Bailey for many years.  Is there somewhere I can read Roy and Bruce's memoires of the mission.  I have my uncle's letters and some photos of the crew as well as other letters and documents but would like to read their accounts.
