My one and only Russian plane turned out Finnish in the end and is far from being LS of M . The 1/72 Mig 15 made by Eduard is a gem and I have another single seater in my stash along with loads of resin and PE. https://forum.largescalemodeller.com/topic/5052-mig-15-uti-172-eduard/?tab=comments#comment-64467 Cheers Rob

Italeri LCM3 landing craft w/Tasca Firefly Vc
DocRob replied to BlrwestSiR's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
I love to blacken white metal tracks or brass pe and turned parts as a first step. the colour you achieve looks just about right for me, matte brownish black and you can control the effect with the amount of time you leave the tracks in the bath. Another plus-side is that you don't get a thick coating, so the function of the tracks will stay intact. Three things are really important in the process, The tracks have to be clean, that means fat free and CA free. Move the tracks in the bath, air bubbles will leave their unwanted signature. Use fresh chemicals, because the effect will be less in used up liquid. The chemicals you need can be bought relativey cheap as fluids for burnishing tiffany lamps by the litre. Cheers Rob -
1/48 Wellington Mk.X (He727 NA-K)
DocRob replied to JeroenPeters's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Maketar masks are just great. Having them used several times, the only thing I noticed is, that in order to get the contours sharp and bubble free, you have to 'rub' them on and they stick very good. If you haven't properly primed or use fragile colours, I recommend to 'detack' them a little on the back of your hand, except you have hairy Werwolf like paws . Cheers Rob- 304 replies

Tamiya Spitfire IXe with ModXXX
DocRob replied to BlrwestSiR's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Planes and beer, what a great combination , will follow your build. Cheers Rob -
Great solution, I will never understand the Trumpeter design Team. Many of their kits have engines supplied and there is no simple way of showing them, weird. They must have two different engineer teems who do not go along well, one for the fuselage and one for the engines and the engines team always looses . Nice work on the cockpit. Cheers Rob

George/George/Rex Triple build
DocRob replied to Bill_S's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Hi Bill, since you started this a while back, nobody can accuse you of following a recent trend here at LSM of multiple kit building . That's a very interesting project with the involvement of a heavy dose of scratching and casting. I will follow closely and by the way, welcome to LSM Cheers Rob -
Thanks Mike it's solved for now, the old GB's are accesible again. Cheers Rob

Hi Kent, this is an exceptional piece of art you made. Everything from the figures, the paintjob, the setting even the size of the base is perfect. I guess you should have become a movie director, because your work always looks like a snapshot taken from a movie and that is a very special talent, Chapeau. Cheers Rob

Nice James, your review appeared faster than I could ask for after having seen you showing the workbench in the 'what i just got-thread'. Cheers Rob

Great result, shame, that all the fine work will be partly hidden in the nacelles. Cheers Rob -
American Volunteer Group, 1st PS "Adam and Eve" Question
DocRob replied to Mikester's topic in Modelling Discussion
Hi Mike, sorry no pics or knowledge about the upper wing painting, but remembered I have some pictures made of that plane in Pensacola. I stored them in the walkaround-secton. https://forum.largescalemodeller.com/topic/5671-p-40b-tomahawk-nas-pensacola/ Cheers Rob -
Hi friends of the P-40, some years ago I visited NAS in Pensacola and took a lot of photos as reference for future projects. Having seen mikesters Thread about that very plane, I decieded to share the pictures. The plane was presented in a very dark spot of the museum, so it was neccesary to use a flash, which I normally try to avoid, because of the colour renditionn. Hope it might help Cheers Rob

Epic, with a little photoshopping you could some of your photos make look like a real construction line in black and white of course. Sometimes I feel the urge of building two planes of the same type, because I want one pure in flight position and one on the ground with all panels open, but SEVEN . At least you need a presentation shelf 'P-40 only' Cheers Rob

Cool, they didn't include the Lights into their T-90 A kit. Installation of all theese ERA-tiles and this and thats on the turret are really time consuming. When I finished the tracks, the lower hull and the metal barrel I thought the rest would be a piece of cake, but nada, feeled million of tiny parts went into the turret. The right 'eye' of your Sensor System seems to bee a litle 'out of focus'. I know from experience, that it is not to easy to align them properly . Cheers Rob

I'm only a Corsair Greenhorn, I built just a Tamiya 1/32 Birdcage one, but I can tell you this will be a fun project. I rarely have seen such a combination of good fit and clever engineering. The only issues I had were with the Brassin engine I added and only because I wanted to build the cowlings removable. The Brassin cockpit I also used is a gem, but is it really neccesary? I don't think so, the supplied one is also bueno. Leaves the seat belts and the rubber wheels to exchange. Some time ago I posted some photos of a 1a, it might be of help https://forum.largescalemodeller.com/topic/4925-f4u-1a-national-naval-aviation-museum-pensacola-fl/ Cheers Rob

For pain reduction while assembling, there is a solution. AK has some white metal tracks of (at least to me) unknown brand which can be bought PREASSEMLED for some extra Euros. https://ak-interactive.com/product/sherman-t54e2-cuff-design-metal-tracks-2/ I bought two sets for a Panther and a T-34 / SU 85. They look good and are great time savers. Cheers Rob -

Nice Tomcat and the pilots look mighty great for a self described 'non figure painter' . The finish looks perfect and I like the look of the HUD's. By the way, welcome to LSM. Cheers Rob -
Great review as ever and a really interesting subject not very well covered until now. Cheers Rob

Hi Martin, the Tetra barrel Looks good and way easier to build than the Voyager one, but I prefer the rendition of the heat mantlet by Voyager, albeit it's a pain to assemble. The angled seamline is reproduceable, because you wind brass tin around the aluminum barrel. However, mine will recieve a lot of dirt, snow and ice, that enable me to hide every imperfection . Jerry Rutman P-51B build
DocRob replied to Clunkmeister's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
It's not like I never did resin stuff, Ernie. I had a complete resin kit started with resin figures and a resin 'Berlin Wall' for a Sci-Fi, Steam-Punk, What-If scene entry for the sadly closed resin GB. I stalled, because of many obstacles while building, but never lost interest in returning once, As you can see, a feeled half of the resin had to be removed in every thinkable way. Fit was terrible and many modifications had to be made. Thread overtaking over , hope you don't mind. Cheers Rob -

You are a brave man, dealing with that old school resin kit. When I see the bubbles and distortions I would give it a kick. I once started to build a 'garage' kit and had to deal with all theese problems. I lost my patience and did not finalize in the Resin GB. But the project itself is not forgotten, because it is a real fun project. I will follow your Mustang and may the forces of resin will be with me again . Cheers Rob -
Hi Guys, I thought I was a close follower of LSM, but something must have escaped my eyesight. I cannot open my own threads made in the Group build section. The threads are still searchable, but i don't have the right to open them. The GB-Section is not anymore on the LSM-Homepage What happened? Cheers Rob

Some kits are just made for the shelf of doom, pity. The good News is, that in recent times These kits became particulary rare. Godd luck with the Corsair. Cheers Rob

Idea... missing the large scale ships here. ...
DocRob replied to elmarriachi's topic in Problems? Suggestions? Tell us!
Nice stuff, I visited your Model Ship World sometimes and liked it a lot, very inspiring. I always had an affection to wooden ship models, specially smaller vessels, because of the possibility to represent them in larger scale. A zillion years ago I started this one, after I visited the rebuild original in the french harbour of St. Malo. After reading one of your reviews here, I took mine out of the 'long forgotten box' and it might be a nice winter project, starting with the very fine double planking after finalising the gunports. Mentioned zillion years ago, I didn't thought about detailing the deck planks, so now for correction, I used a pencil for borders and nails. Sometimes it feels just great to work with 'real' materials like wood and brass and not with some weird polymere outcasts. Chers Rob
