This one is nicely progressing, Peter. I always thought building the Harrier would be a walk in the park and am surprised that it is not. Seems to be the Hasegawa tag, what let me think "shake and bake". You marveled all These obstacles and the Harrier is looking the thing. Can't wait to see it painted. Cheers Rob

Muy bueno, the pit is looking good and thanks for feeding the brainbug, getting me one as well, actually not for the first time . Cheers Rob

Nice way of 'volume painting', I mean creating depth with shading and highlighting. Cheers Rob -

DocRob replied to JeroenPeters's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Nice brasswork, Jeroen, it's a shame to cover all the PE with paint. Must have been a lot of bending, but worth it in the end. Cheers Rob- 304 replies

Tamiya Spitfire MkXVIe
DocRob replied to GusMac's topic in LSM 1/32 and Larger Aircraft Ready for Inspection
Hi Gus, your Spitfire is a clear wow and the paintjob is perfectly blended with the roundels and Insignia airbrushed. It pays not to lean to decals to much. The chipping is where it should be. Don't worry to much about the engine, the rest of the bird looks great enough. Cheers Rob -
Your Spit is looking great, you should be proud with that result. The paintjob looks just right with the shading effect and the dots of colour add some contrast. It's a pity that you encountered so many problems with the great looking engine. That dosen't sound tamiyaesque. At least you can see the convincingly finished exhausts. Some more shots with the neutral lighting, like the first one would be very welcome. Cheers Rob

Hola Senhoras e Senhores, decaling in general gives me the creeps. Lots of things can go wrong doing it as one of the last steps of building a kit. There is silvering, breaking, residues of solvents, bad colors, misprinted shapes, you name it. If the title of the thread lead you to the wishful thinking I found the holy grail of decaling which eleminates all These problems, I have to apologize. But I found something which haunted me badly while decaling and never thought about solving these matters before. Why, I don't know, maybe because of stupidity or because lots of people, me included, don't think proper about the Little things when they have a big picture in mind. Always while decaling, especially large scale planes, I fear to topple the bottles of Micro Set and Micro Sol. The second bad Thing happening to me is mixing up the cotton swabs. This simple piece of wood, drilled with two 32mm holes for the solvents and 6 mm holes for the swabs hopefully will give me the mental strength to build and decal a modern Jet with all the needed stencils Cheers Rob

Trumpeter SBD-3
DocRob replied to JohnB's topic in LSM 1/32 and Larger Aircraft Ready for Inspection
Nice SBD you built there. I like the subtle shading and weathering. The pit and gunner section looks great too. I let the Trumpeter SBD pass because I have a 1/48 one in my stash with lots of PE and other aftermarket stuff, but one of These days… . Cheers Rob -
Hi Rich, interesting method of building up corrosion. I like these kind of short tutorials, it's always good do see different approaches used by different people. My method of rusting is quite different from yours, but I will try your way because I like the results. The salt technique is another thing I will try soon. But after your MAZ Project, I think you deserve the title as the "Corronator" Cheers Rob

Hi Rich, you are kind of posessed . But in a way, aren't we all more or less. I like the framework and the way you made scratching it looking so easy. Cheers Rob

Thanx for linking that Iain, that's truly impressive stuff. One of my future projects will show a burned and corroded Japanese tank, half sunken in the sand of a nice beach and some blue-green water splashing on the shore with foam. So experiences of others working with "water" are highly welcomed. Cheers Rob

1:32 scale SPAD XIII C.1 of Frank Luke Jnr
DocRob replied to sandbagger's topic in WNW and WW1 Ready for Inspection'
Very nice, The SPAD looks perfect with all the scratching you did and the scenery is beautifully convincing. Chapeau Cheers Rob -
Hola Mirek, that bird came out very beautiful. The weathering is spot on and is supported by your great riveting job. You got a convincing metal finish, from far the plane looks almost new, but if you come closer you see the wear and tear. Cheers Rob

Starfighter Volker Air Base
DocRob replied to Rick Martens's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Hi Rick, great to see you back here. The true scale remodelling of your house looks great and it's always comforting to have a refugium aka mancave . It's great to have a dog in the house, it makes live just more alive. Have fun with your projects and don't Forget to share them. Cheers Rob -
Hi Rich, another of those russian beasts, seems to be an addiction. Yeah these vehicles are very appealing in their brute functionally design. I found one pictue of a Frog, taken by me three years ago north of Berlin in the open air museum "Flugzeugmuseum Finowfurt" an abandoned airfield of the Soviets in the former GDR. It's only black and white and therefore just a teaser. Have fun with that new project Cheers Rob

Welcome Zeb, an interesting project you started there. I like the metalwork, you have done, and it's truly large scale. Cheers Rob -
HPH PBY-5A Catalina (Cutaway)
DocRob replied to kkarlsen's topic in LSM 1/32 and Larger Aircraft Ready for Inspection
What a masterpiece you finished here and the figures support the scenery in a great way. I love the Cat and more than once I thought about getting me the cut away Version from HPH. In the end I don't have the courage for her and that leaves me raising my hat and say Chapeau. Cheers Rob -
Thanks for that great review James. That is quite something different and I like it a lot. Since I read all the Hornblower stories in my youth I wanted to build a wooden ship. preferably a frigate. Years ago I started with the build of a French cutter of the legendary Corsair Surcouf of St. Malo. The kit is made by Artesanialatina and is double planked and fully equiped with Details. What stopped me from desiring a frigate was the scale like the Vanguard with 1/72. The Cutter is 1/50 and I find it easier to detail in that scale and it spares you the redundancy of Building 74 cannons with gates and other repetetive works. After finishing the Renard, I will go for the big thing and search for a big scale ship (that's what we are here for) with loads of detail, I hope to find a decent kit of a Corvette or a Sloop in 1/32 or similar. Our member Spliffsecond planted a brainbug recently, by showing his rubber powered wooden SE.5A. I remembered liking to work with Wood and metal and decided to continue the build of the Cutter in near future and maybe a wooden plane in between. So thanks again for feeding the bug with that review of a piece of art kit. Cheers Rob

TA-152 Zoukei Moura Finally Done
DocRob replied to DocRob's topic in LSM 1/32 and Larger Aircraft Ready for Inspection
Thanx Gentlemen for your kind words. @nmayhew, you might be right with your assumption about the grill in the supercharger intake. I found some photos and descriptions of a TA-152 H0 without the grille, after you mentioned it. The one awaiting restoration in the US has one and that was the base for me adding one, can't trust nobody . On the other hand I'm not a total rivet counter, if it looks about right it's ok for me and the grille looks just cool and right. Cheers Rob -
Great review, like James said, the comparision made it stand out. I will definetely get me one. Cheers Rob

TA-152 Zoukei Moura Finally Done
DocRob replied to DocRob's topic in LSM 1/32 and Larger Aircraft Ready for Inspection
Thank you Joachim, I didn't want to overdo the weathering, because of the short period of action these birds saw. On the other Hand I went with the white wash the first time to simulate the harsh winter conditions, the TA's were used in. Cheers Rob -
1/48 Wellington Mk.X (He727 NA-K)
DocRob replied to JeroenPeters's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Wow Jeroen, that is looking great. As usual with most of your builds you seem to be covered in brass and CA . The bomb bay looks to be a real challenge, shame that you will have to take a dive to see all the detail once the plane is finished. The plate with the applied photo will be an eyecather. Cheers Rob- 304 replies

Spad XIII C.1 of the 27th Aero - Frank Luke
DocRob replied to sandbagger's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Hi Mike, what you started here shows a great deal of skilled scratchbuilding. I always wanted to build a decent SPAD, but without that big deal of bending the base kit (WNW, do you hear me?). Can't wait to see yours finished. Cheers Rob -
