I didn’t mean to pick nits. I’m much too mean to be so nice. 🤣. Seriously though, this is looking very nice indeed. You’re the 109 expert here, and Martin lives and breathes the Butcher Bird, so I’d say we’re pretty well covered for German fighter experten.

GazzaS
HI everyone, Yesterday, while I was at work, the HGW belts arrived. I wasted no time in installing and lightly weathering them. Some guys like to really grub them up. But I don't. I gave them a light brown wash, and then "chipped" them with off-white acrylic paint. I can't imagine a pilot from any nation happy to climb into a plane in his pristine flight uniform with anything in the cockpit looking like a soiled mechanic's uniform. Unlike most 109's, this one actually has a lid to the cockpit tub. It's dry-fitted for now. Finally... I did a little wing work while waiting for the belts. The lower-wing panels fit without gaps. Nor was any sanding required to get them to lay evenly. This kit is just amazing regarding fit. Happy modelling! 8
Martinnfb
Cockpit looks great, I like the relatively clean look of it. Nice to hear about the precise fit. Looks like a well engineered assembly.

So, I changed the chipping from aluminum to wood tones.

Peterpools
Gaz Awesome work on the front office and the start of the wings. After seeing your seatbelt set from HGW, I'm wondering how the set I purchased from Airscale will compare. I dare not touch the plastic until I finish the Whirlwind and every update photo adds to the temptation - I keep telling myself to be strong but it is getting harder and harder.

GazzaS
Welcome back my friends. With the few hours not stolen from me by life's duties, I managed to get some things done. First of all...I sanded the dorsal and ventral seams. So that I won't have to scribe them later. I hate scribing... especially on a curved surface. Once that was done, I filled an excess filler port with black CA and discovered the first flaw.... Unfortunately, there is one on the port side as well. I'll get to them once the fuselage halves are solidly joined. Last night I put in the bare bones of the fuselage framing. Somebody mentioned being forced to add the tail gear before closing up the fuselage. It's just not so. All you have to do is swing it in at the correct angle so that the top and bottom locator lugs fit snugly. 6 Then you just add the fillet H-6 per the directions, as I have done below. (dry-fitted) You can even add the fuselage tub after sealing the back half together.... Though, I didn't use the fuel cell which may complicate things for the more detail-oriented person... though I doubt it. Happy modelling! 8
Peterpools
Gaz Terrific progress and looking so good. So far there doesn't seem to be any fit issue as the two fuselage haves look to have a perfect fit after adding in the front office and all the fuselage ribs. A few sink marks and I'll take that after spending hours and hours trying to figure out what goes where on the Whirlwind. Of course, no matter how well the kit is engineered, it's the builder's skill in the end that is the critical factors and all looks perfect. "Patience, my man" ... yes, I'm trying as hard as I can. .
BlrwestSiR
The fit continues to look excellent. The sink marks don't look too bad in your pic. Maybe you can use Mr Surfacer to fill them? Save on excess filler getting every where. Carl
Bomber_County
Gaz, this is looking amazing, having built two ZM’s now I’d be happy to build many more………seriously considering this 109……
DocRob
Nice progress Gary. The cockpit looks nice and busy and the seat belts are eye catching. Good to hear about the good fitting and these small sink marks are no deal breaker. Is there the perfect kit out there, hmm, just started my new Tamiya Corsair... Cheers Rob
