Administrators JeroenPeters Posted June 4, 2019 Author Administrators Share Posted June 4, 2019 Started with the rotted lamited wood using a dremel tool at slow speed. I need to take away more first before i add some back.
GusMac
Nicely chewed. I have a Jack Russell (not the one in my avatar, but her nephew) who is good at that sort of finish but generally not on the parts you want it on!

rkranias
Heres a few images of the Ho229 at both Silver Hill facility and Udvar Hazy PRU. Hope some of these images will be helpful. Early 2012 the Ho229 being prepped at the Silver Hill facility for move to Udvar Hazy Preservation Restoration Unit (PRU). Note white shrink poly protecting open areas. Wing Root, photo taken from Observation Level with "big" lens. Wing trailing edge. The laminated birch clearly "ungluing" due to aging. Wing trailing edge. Carefully being placed on mount at Silver Hill facility. Securing the nose gear to the mount.

GusMac
I know they were struggling for resources by the end of the war but the quality of that timber and it's treatment is pretty remarkable. I've seen timber constructions a fraction of the age of that which have deteriorated far more rapidly. The Germans always could do 'build quality'.
Wingco57
Jeroen, may I suggest you start training plastic termites to copy the decay on that Horten?
Administrators JeroenPeters Posted June 11, 2019 Author Administrators Share Posted June 11, 2019 Thnx for those pics Rick! sprayed a black AK base. Then various wood shades on wooden areas. After the paint has thoroughly dried i’ll spray hairspray and then build up the grey and green shades. also drilled out the rivets on the nose and sawed the joint line.
