Model Air Paints - these days, I use them for brush painting, where they excel. When air brushing, they absolutely require using their own thinner and air brush cleaner or the paint turns to a messy glue in your air brush - which is my biggest reason for no longer shooting them. Color range is awesome: the paint scratches and lifts more easily with masking, then other brands after using it for a number of years Keep ‘em comin Peter

Just catching up and I’ve used both with nearly the same results; the key is the base coat. Gloss black - not necessarily. Black is needed to bring out the metallic/reflective look, but what is needed is a super smooth base for the metallic finish. I’ve tried most and what works best for me: Tamiya Semi Gloss Black, thinned with Mr Color Self Leveling Thinner plus a few extra drops of Mr Retarder Mild. Tamiya Gloss Black requires too many coats and the base becomes too thick, making gluing on parts a mess. Semi Gloss does the trick perfectly, requiring a lot less paint, dries faster then almost all the gloss black base coats and if needed, polishes perfectly: the perfect base coat. I still use a Thin primer coat to get things going. AK vs Alclad almost the same but I have found AK Metallics a bit tougher and resist lifting from masking a bit better. I still use both and depending on the color, mix and match as needed. Yup they both ‘smell’ and I spray them in my paint booth and wear a respirator. Keep ‘em comin Peter

Of all the main decal solvent solutions, Micro Set/Sol System is the friendliest and of lowest potency. I've used them since the 1970's and never a problem other then poor decals. If I'm worried about using the Sol solution, I goes with another application of et on top of the decals. if you're still uneasy, test on a decal in th least noticeable place. Also. just check to make sure the paint/clear cat is smooth an d clean, to cover all the bases Once the decals have thoroughly dried and the Micro Set/Sol has wicked off, I would gloss on top and then the final clear finish. Can't say enough about Sprue Brothers - my number one go to vendor. Orders arrive on time and the few issues I've had plus a refund or two have always been handled promptly. Aces in my book. Now for their new web site - I personally liked the old site much better. Peter

MIke Sorry to hear about the issues you had and thank you for passing on the heads up. Peter

Just watched Brett Green's review of the Helldiver and she sounds like a winner for sure. What dives me a bit batty is the entire kit looks like an injection molded version of HPH's kit, including the box art. Detail resin addon sets look to be HPH resin. Any news on what's what? Peter
