Thanks Harv! Yup, I made it to 50. Was supposed to celebrate with some of you in Vegas but had that detailed. Will try again at some point. Otherwise I can't complain. Had my parents and my youngest sister and her family over to celebrate with. Plus, two ice cream cakes...

The only other kit I know like that is the Tamiya Mossie. Many are started, few are finished.

Thanks Harv! I forgot to post a pic of the sub with the conning tower on.

Time for a very belated update. The build is almost done. The conning tower work is completed. There are several antennae around the conning tower. I decided to use wire to replace the kit plastic. Before I installed them, I painted the lower section of the periscope in silver, followed by the upper part in black. There's a railing along the deck and that's the last bit to add. I need to run the rope through the railing posts once they're attached and the build is done. So it's the homestretch now.

Your Corsair looks as far along as mine. I've pushed it to my son's end of the bench for the moment.

Harv, if that's your idea of slapping on filler, can you come to our house and do some tuck pointing? I've got some cracks in our brick that need filling. Your "slapping on" is neater than my precision application. Oh and glad to see you back at the bench. Carl

I second Ron on the Infini sanding sticks. They last a long time like he said. I usually add a couple to my orders from HLJ when I need them. Carl

Thanks for the pics Ernie. You can definitely see the origins of the plastic kit from the resin one. The loss of depth for the interior details is certainly due to moulding limitations and what they can pull from a steel mould versus a silicon one. As for drilling all the dive flap holes, I think that's the airplane equivalent of assembling Model Kasten tracks for a Sherman. Carl

Not Tamiya, they just announced a new version of their 1/48 Tomcat with dropped flaps and slats.

Glad you finally got it Harv. It amazes me that any company that is dependant on paying customers should have such poor customer relations. Carl

There's some shape issues with the kit. Shocking I know. Mostly the cowl and the opening under the prop. The rear windows apparently have a shape problem as well. The MLG bay has the incorrect front wall that so many Mustang kits have. The leading edge kink at the wing roots is the wrong shape I think as well. Jerry Rutman used to do a correction set that fixed the cowl and gear bays. Grey Matter Figures (who bought many of Jerry's masters) didn't bother with that set unfortunately. The Aires MLG is supposed to be a decent substitute if not 100% accurate. I think there is a new rear window coming from a guy called 109 Ace. He used to be on LSP but you can find him on eBay. Can't recall what his seller's name is there. I can't recall the rivet situation so something will have to comment there. As I sold mine before getting around to it, I don't know how it goes together either. Maybe HK or ZM will finally being out a modern kit this decade. Or do as Martin did and graft a Hasegawa nose onto a Revell fuselage. Or was it a Revell razorback onto a Hasegawa one? Carl
