Daft project or is it? 1/32 Short Stirling III

Recommended Posts

I thought I was smart, well,…. I’m not:D

During a rare visit to the office I tried to enlarge my 1/72 drawings by 225%. As I didn’t have any parts with me I checked by eye if the scale was right. When I got home it wasn’t.:wallbash:;)

I tried to use the drawIngs for measurements but they are inconsistent.

Oh well, back to the drawing board.:D

Office photocopiers seldom have the same enlargement factor in X and Y axes. It is always a safe procedure to draw a vertical and horizontal line of the same exact length on the drawing to be enlarged, and measure them when enlarged. You will sometimes be surprised by the generated discrepancies ...

It was Peter, but hey that is modelling.:)

Until drawings are available I continue work on the interior. Didn’t have much time but made the heater duct (thick sprue) and the basic flight engineer panels. On top if this base the panels will be fitted. Will add cable bundles etc. So that a hint of “busyness”can be seen through the armoured door.

Hubert

Becoming the master of the skills needed to scratch build such a project is an achievement pmost modelers will never conquer but the organizational skills is another.

I tip my to a master
Keep ‘em comin

Cees, between you and Tom, you truly drop my jaw.
Tom mentioned a possible issue with the thrust line changing when modifying the wing camber. I seem to recall Iain having serious issues with that same thing on his Liberator wing modification project.
Have you determined anything yet?  I’m truly fascinated by this entire thing, as I’m doing something similar with a form and scratchbuilding, but on a much smaller scale,.. a 1/32 Fokker Super Universal.  Between the two of you and your clinics on these pages, you’ve both improved my scratchbuilding 50 fold, and I’m not exaggerating one bit on that.
I found you just need to get past that mental block and understand that it’s just plastic and one hopes we have somewhat higher brain function than it has.
I stand absolutely amazed, Sir, and I mean every bit of that.

Morning all,

Time flies I see. I haven’t been doing much modelling the past weeks. Enjoying my holiday

before I start my new job on monday. Didn’t have much motivation but that is about to change.

I do have good drawings now for the Stirling so that will make things easier. Recently visited the museum at Deelen

where you can see a complete Stirling pilot seat and a big section of fuselage, that certainly will make the creative juices flowing.

Cheers

A 1:1 scale Auster-Taylorcraft?   What engine are you using, Anthony?  Lycoming, Continental, or Gypsy? Is it a civilian aircraft or the greenhouse military version?

The British produced Austers were one unique looking light plane.

A 1:1 scale Austerity -Taylorcraft - now that so amazing. I looked a some pics of the Auster and I can see a lot of the Taylorcraft’s I’ve been so fond of. Taylorcraft and Piper linked at the hip and the first training hours and solo were in a J3.
send some pics our way

Keep ‘em comin

My Dad was a founding member of the Auster pilots club along with Jim Simes . . . .

Thanks guys!  She is a T.7 model and served in AAC/RAF/RAuxAF/RHKAAF and then HK Govt (hence going from RAF serial WE552 to HKG-4).  She is very different to the civvie ones and has a 145 Gipsy Major out front. I am rebuilding her to full stock military config.

Sorry for hijacking your thread Cees....

Wow, that’s what I call a big project. 32x as large as the model ;)!

That looks really fantastic and like Peter says it would be great to see the progress here Anthony!
