Working to keep my business afloat through the Covid mess, (we succeeded), my wife’s illnesses and hospitalizations, (she’s on the mend), my Daddy’s illnesses and hospitalization, (he’s on the mend), and the ongoing saga with my Mom.

She has Dementia and is in a nursing home. For two years, the Docs and nurses have complained constantly about my Mom’s knack of getting up and going for midnight strolls. They’ve had to constantly chase her down and bring her back.

Well, Covid came, and of course nobody was allowed in to see her, so that gave them the chance to rope her down in her bed and of course she developed bedsores.  Being 82 years old, the infection wouldn’t go away, so they were forced to amputate her left leg at her hip.  Now no infection and no more chasing her down. What a relief for them.
Now of course this is in Canada, and despite it being blatant malpractice, there are no witnesses, just statements from old folks and much conjecture, and suing the government isn’t recommended, so my family is out in the cold.

But, that being said, there WILL be a Christmas raffle this year. We had som issues with last year’s edition, with some suppliers going broke, and a couple names being missed, (I run this myself) but we’ll try a bit harder this year.  I expect to go live right after Thanksgiving, y’all.

I'm glad to see you back, Ernie, and glad that some of your family is on the mend.

However, words cannot convey my anger at the barbarity perpetrated on your mom.  I'm saddened that "care" can be so horrible.  And angered that nobody will answer for it.

I hope things get better.

I hope things will improve for the better from now on. Good to see it seems so, my friend.

As for your mother, it’s terrible to read such a story. One would expect this does not happen anymore in a « civilised » country ….

Ernie, glad to hear you're back and that things are mostly on the upswing.

It's sad to hear about your mom though. There's been too much news about long term 'care' homes here in Canada and their lack of oversight and accountability. It is quite disappointing and shocking.

I can only echo what others have said brother. You and Joy are always in Bev and my hearts. I miss our phone calls. Seems we all have had a not so good year. Thanks for letting us know....harv🧡

Sorry to hear of all your troubles Ernie, but glad things have mostly worked out. As others have said, what's happened to your Mom is a disgrace but so difficult to get accountability from these places, especially in these circumstances. Glad the business has come through. From some of the pictures you've posted you and your staff have some serious skills which it would be a crime to lose.

My mother-in-law has been in a care home for 7 years which is almost unheard of over here, but thankfully it's a good home and she's a tough old bird. I swear if the bomb drops it's her and the cockroaches afterwards...

Thanks y’all.  Care homes in Canada are notorious. Carl can testify, I’m sure. I’m just glad I’m here, because if I was there, I’d most likely be in prison right now.

Ernie, that's horrible.  I lost Mom a year ago this past September.  She was in assisted living for almost 3 years and then into a nursing home from Jan to Sept.  Although she was bed ridden, she also suffered from lung issues where she could not clear her body of CO2.  She was always hallucinating and coming up with stories that would have been believable if she wasn't bed ridden.  I will say though, her care wasn't as horrific as your Mothers.

Glad to see you're back.
