You bring up something many people didn’t know, there were different barrel types. They were equipped with Ho-103 .50 cal nose guns, and either 20mm Ho-5 cannons or 30mm Ho-155 cannons. The barrels you have are the 20mm type. A few were equipped with 20mm in the nose too. 3
Administrators Clunkmeister Posted January 8, 2020 Administrators Share Posted January 8, 2020 Good grief! The Ki-84 was a serious threat, and if well flown, easily an even match for the F6F and F4U, then you add in a full complement of 20mm cannon? Yikes Guven decent fuel quality and skilled crew, it might have proved to be more than a match for the best we had.

What paint and how did yo get such a smooth finish on the black primer? I'm looking forward to the next update........ looking really good..... Thanks Jeff. I used Mig One Shot primer black on the Frank. I forgot all about the Mig primed and used Mr Surfacer on the Tony. I rubbed the Mr Surfacer back with 4000 and 6000 soft sanding sticks. The Mig One Shot required no rubbing back. Tomorrow morning, Sunday, I get to spend the day working on the models. Both will receive gloss coats so then to be painted metal. I have been attempting the hairspray technique with large doses of failure. I think my paints may be wrong for this technique, although Chris Wauchop is able to do it using the same paints. Both the Tony and Frank will be wearing camo anyway, except for the belly of the Tony. The Frank canopy was painted yesterday.
Sir Desmond Glazebrook
I have begun painting. The Tony and Frank are both on my bench.
Sir Desmond Glazebrook
Bad light has hindered my work today. Although I began modelling at 8 a.m.. The Frank gets its basic camo tomorrow. The day will be spent adding coats and rubbing them back. Unlike the Tony, the Frank will be Brown and grey. My day tomorrow is only interrupted for 3 hours when I have to drum. I took advantage of the drizzling rain to go to the the hobby shop for supplies. The Tony now is a mess with splotched various shades of Kawasaki green. These will be blended together if the light is better, in between work done on the Frank. Due to my current high level of confidence that I can complete the original build, I now plan to have both completed together. When that is done I will complete the Tojo. I will have gone from nought to three hundred in one go! It is such a relief.

Sir Desmond Glazebrook
Thanks so much guys. This morning I stripped the Brown from the Frank due to a weathering experiment going awry. For days I have been rubbing the paintwork back and reapplying the green on the Tony. This evening I will set about weathering it. I need to re-scribe one belly line on the Tony. I had rescrcribbed it but obviously not enough. The Frank now has a newer better Brown but was wet when I took these. Happily it is raining. Hopefully for many weeks. 3

polsen
Hi Sir Desmond, I'm glad you got your tail plane issue corrected and horizontal. I agree with "1 to 1 scale's " post ; if the prongs on the tail planes don't link up correctly they will result in a offset angle. You also won't see real aircraft exsisting with such a offset tailplane angle either. Anyway, Alls well that ends well and you got it sorted. Thank God we're getting some rain down there those bush fires have been absolutely horrible to say the least. I'm living overseas and It's very difficult to see or read anything about it on the news. We donated and I encourage others to do so too. All the best for the rest of your builds and stay safe Cheers, Pete P.s -don't you just love WW2 Japanese aircraft ! 1

I am going to weather them before I put decals on. Here is the Frank with it's basic new paint Job. I am about to play drums for 8 hours so won't do anything today. I have zero responsibilities tomorrow, Sunday. Hopefully I can do a better job tomorrow. Thanks guys. 6

Looking good, but why weathering before decaling? If you put the decals on first, you can give them the fitting weathered appearance.
