All your efforts payed off, Gaz. The bird looks great, with everything you did while painting and weathering just clicks. Cheers Rob -
Revell P-51-5NA Mustang
DocRob replied to Peterpools's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Despite all the obstacles, she looks like a Mustang and thanks to your extra effort, it will be a beauty. At this stage, there shouldn't be to many new issues lurking somewhere. I'm not overly eager to start with my ZM Mustang IV, before I here some positive signals from Phil, concerning the body panels and cowlings fit. I still have nightmares about ZM' s TA-152, which should be build all open for that instance. Like with your P-51, I can't stand, when weak engineering or overenthusiastic all-open-options lead to a very difficult fit, when you decide to button the bird up. Cheers Rob -
They do in their detail pics of the German version now. There are four different planes, one with a grey fuselage and three with wood, aluminum and linen. It has floats, woodgrain, metal and cloth, right down my alley, as a friend of showing material textures and appearance. I think, I can't resist any longer and will talk myself into the Friedrichshafen, being a substitute for the missed opportunity to get a WNW Albatros B.II, with a similar appealing material mix. Cheers Rob

Thanks Gaz, I hope as well to finish the interior soon and hop into the real thing, top or flop . If I fail epic, it's reassuring, that there is a second Ammoknight in the box . Cheers Rob Indeed Peter and like with books, I have to have a next project in my head, when I'm nearing the finish line with a build, with anticipation of what is coming. I don't like the black (what do I build next, dunno) hole, this to me is totally anti climaxing. Cheers Rob

Israeli Mirage III C with Atar9C
DocRob replied to Kaireckstadt's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Nice, the brass adds some extra detail and will look good under a layer of paint. Hannants has some Isradecal sets in their portfolio, not for the Mirage unfortunately. Maybe they could be convinced to order some. Cheers Rob- 719 replies

I feel the need... for Shake and Bake... Tamiya StuG
DocRob replied to GazzaS's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Hi Gaz, your three tone camo looks spot on. If you still want to cover everything in whitewash, there are some excellent figures from Evolution Miniatures out there, which fit like a glove. They are extremely well casted and I bought them for mine. Like many of their figures, they look more animated, than these Alpine puppets in there often stiff poses. Cheers Rob -
Thanks Phil, I don't know very much about the MaK universe either and that's exactly where you can go freestyle, backed up by the 1/20 scale, which helps to incorporate new techniques. Generally, I don't want to corner myself with interest in only certain types of subjects for my builds, I like variety. I build whatever attracts me, when time comes. The most important thing for me, is to have fun while building models. Cheers Rob

Thanks Kai, this Lady was in my focus as well, when Royal released it. She will look great on a P-47. Puh, smelly affair in my workshop, first metallics and then hairspray, brrrr . I used different Xtreme Metal tones for the inner parts and as a base for my yet to choose interior colour, which will be chipped a lot. That's where a heavy dose of hairspray was used. I did the same for the gas bottles and sprayed their fittings and the torch brass colour. I test sprayed the heart shaped patch with gun metal and like the roughly 'welded' look. Cheers Rob

I feel the need... for Shake and Bake... Tamiya StuG
DocRob replied to GazzaS's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Exactly my plan for my Stug build, using dark yellow as a base for the winter wash, which I will brush paint with washable white. The extra track links may look like light gun metal, brand new. It's cast steel, so it won't be to shiny and not to light with the slightly pitted surface, reducing refraction. If they where some time on the tank in a winter humid surrounding, I would use my usual base technique with white metal tracks and blacken them chemically. Cheers Rob -
Thanks Peter, there are not that many details on the Ammoknight, which suits me well, as with it's organic forms, it's an ideal canvas for my planned brush painting idea, but first, I have to paint the inner parts of the power suit, which I find a bit boring, as only little can be seen afterwards. Cheers Rob

Muchas Gracias Kai, the sculpting of the welding girl is indeed superb. let's see, if I can do her justice with my limited figure painting experiences. The heart patch will be checked soon under a coat of primer for a sufficient welding effect. I made the welding bead with thick CA and a toothpick. Cheers Rob

Daft project or is it? 1/32 Short Stirling III
DocRob replied to Wingco57's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Impressive work and craftmanship. This build will be epic. Cheers Rob -
Very nice build and evenly nice paintjob. The flaps arrangement with the red underlying is a beautiful contrast and man has this bird flaps. Cheers Rob

I prepared the setting, adding the fog dispenser with lead wires. On the right side, two tins got shot away and will dangeling on the cables later, with a little deformation. Sasha the wielding girl put a heart shaped patch on the hole and wielded it on. Cheers Rob

There was only one Polish plane and if you look for Lukgraph's 1/48 offering and in the net, the markings of the German birds, seem to be pretty basic. Cheers Rob

This is a beauty, albeit a pricey one. Is it a must buy? I'm trying to convince me not, but seem to fail, open outcome with a clear tendency.... To ruin my idea of buying less models, it looks so well designed and I used Lukgraphs 3D printed Le Rhone engine on my last build and it was far superior to the e.G. Oberursel resin engine from Copper State. There will be a limited edition with wood and linen decals included for the German version, must resist,... BTW, thanks Fran for getting me hooked , but honestly, I spotted the Friedrichshafen before. Cheers Rob

Revell P-51-5NA Mustang
DocRob replied to Peterpools's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Have you done a NMF with Alclad's, Peter? You can get great results, but with my experiences the Alclad's are very sensitive in general some tones more than others. I would test a lot if you go for different shades on panels, which involves masking. Some of the colours don't adhere very good and some loose a bit of luster when taped, even with detacked tape. Another issue can arise when varnishing. Shine and tone of the colour may change. Don't get me wrong, they make great metallics, but you need to be careful and test a lot. I changed into the Extreme colour range because of that, using my old Alclads only where there is no masking involved or where they have exactly the shade I like, e.G. exhaust manifold. Cheers Rob -

I hear you Peter, about the shortcomings of the Revell kit, but can notice none of it in the progress pics. You seem to breeze through the build and make it look easy. Do I hear NMF soon? Cheers Rob
